I'm a Cornell grad, and one thing I remember with particular pleasure about my time in Ithaca, NY are those occasional forays down the Hill for lunch or (more likely) dinner at Moosewood, for years one of *the* local standout restaurants. Although not a vegetarian, I try not to eat meat every day of the week; and for a tasty, healthy alternative, there just isn't anything better than Moosewood's recipes. No question that I had to get their cookbook - several of them, actually - before I finally left town.

I have been eager for some time to make sushi. However, being a vegetarian, it is not particulary easy. Most books offer a couple of token recipes. I was in my element when I discovered it! The pages are well laid out, with large, glossy colour photos, and a wide selection of recipes. The author offers variations and also some fish alternatives. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced and can be bought at the supermarket. Although are rather time consuming pastime, it is very rewarding, and this book guides you ever step of the way.

This is a great all round book with good layout and lots of nice photos. It covers lots of basic recipes so there is something for every occasion. I've made the Apple Cake twice and it is really delicious, and, importantly, looks good - making it all the more impressive when served to non-vegans. Not all the recipes call for egg replacer - lots give flax seeds as the main replacer or as an option. I would definitely recommend this book, along with Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, for anyone interested in vegan baking.

At first I thought this book was brilliant but actually it's got incorrect information in it which could be a danger to your child and I couldn't trust it!!

In the 4-7 month category it has recipes for oats and meat. If you're weaning your child before 6 months you should know that you cannot give meat to them and only gluten free oats, which it doesn't mention.

I wouldn't trust this book and will not be using it. Unfortunately I didn't get to look at it until it was too late to return.

So yeah I've just got back from living in Japan and being vegan having to cook everyday and veganising many favourite japanese dishes. The recipes are good and the explanations are nice but...

Where are the photos?!? That's why we BUY cookbooks or we would just get it off the internet wouldn't we?!

For those who think vegetarian equals deprivation, they need only pick up this book to find that meat is not always necessary for rich, delicious meals. Many of the recipes require only a few ingredients, and none are difficult to prepare, so this is excellent for those just beginning to cook or interested in trying out a meatless diet. Most definitely worth adding to any cookbook collection

A fabulous read. Unlike many other vegan authors, Erik Markus makes the case for veganism (extremely well) by stating the facts. The book is all the more powerful for the matter of fact approach Markus adopts. Buy it now. If you're thinking about becoming vegan, this book will confirm time and again, that you'll be making the right choice.
