Hard to imagine, but this book about the current state of the world of wine blends the thrill of an expose with the wisdom imparted by a primer, while written with the verve of Tom Wolfe. I learned more about the good stuff, about wine snobbery and - most important of all - about how to enjoy wine 'without the tears' than I ever expected. Not bad for something that costs less than a decent bottle of Cannonau.

What a fantastic little book this is and you don't have to be vegan to enjoy the recipes because they are great as they are. My husband loves the chilli recipe and I can't make enough of it for him. And what a great idea to make shepherd's pie and lasagne in a slow cooker. I would never have even thought of that. The desserts are delicious too.

If you love having more time and to yourself and eating really healthy and tasty meals, then this is the book you need. It's full of receipes from around the world that you can just prepare, throw into the slow cooker and leave to cook all day. Until I met my wife, I was not really into vegetarian food, and was basically carnivorous. Over the years, I have learned both to cook and to enjoy a lot more vegetarian food, which in any case seems to have improved immeasurably in Britain over the past ten years or so.
This book is superb. Despite some reviews in the US saying that the recipes were too complicated or time-consuming, I really don't think they are (it only takes a few minutes to grind some spices; is that really so hard?); besides, I like to spend a bit of time in the kitchen if I'm making something special.

It is perhaps quite surprising that there aren't more books available that combine vegetable gardening with the art of cookery so it is a real pleasure that this, the pack leader is such a delight. The enthusiasm of Monty Don flows out from whatever he is doing at the time and there is no difference here in Fork to Fork.
Besides being a practical gardening book and organic to boot, and an inspirational kitchen guide, Fork to Fork is also a visual pleasure, packed with heartwarming garden photography that makes you want to rush outside and emulate.
There was also something else about this book that simply encourages you to take a deep breathe and slow down awhile.
A book that is simply delightful.

Supposedly you can lose an average of a pound a day on this program. I'm not sure why it's called the "Diet Detox" because the book clearly points out that detoxifying is much different than dieting.

This "program" works by you eating certain foods which detoxify your body. The goal of detoxifying is to cleanse and rest the body. But, since one of the natural consequences of detoxifying is that excess weight falls off, you'll not only have a cleaner running body, but a lighter one as well- as least so says the book.

Lots of testimonial abound, which, by the way, is the poorest form of proof that something is effective. The book also offers a 7 day tune-up and a 2 day weekend cleansing as well.

I've bought lots through Amazon over the years and this is the first time I've felt strongly enough to write a review. I've no complaints about the information in this book, but I found the tone and style so offputting that I stopped reading after a couple of chapters and have given it away. Basically it felt like the author was making a lot of assumptions about my views just because I'm pregnant and a vegetarian (for example by speaking about the joys of creating life without taking life (i.e. eating meat)) and it made the book very annoying to read.

This is one of the main books I use for weekday cooking - the recipes are easy, quick to prepare and make use of ingredients that you have in your cupboard or fridge. Don't expect sensational and spectacular dinner party solutions in here, because this is not the book to wow your guests with; however, it does result in healthy, hearty recipes that taste very good and nutritious in a traditional, simple sort of way, perfect for the weekday cook who does not have 3 hours to whip up a meal.
