.The Virgin Internet Travel Guide (Virgin Internet Guide) City Travel Guides > Books > Virgin by: Davey Winder January 06, 2000 I read the 'recmmended' review in Personal Computer World magazine this month which was full of praise for the book, and thought at less than five pounds it wasn't much of a gamble if they had got it terribly wrong. I am more than happy to report that they got it right, spot on in fact. A pocket sized cornucopia of Internet information for the traveller of all ages and all types., from the crusing OAP to the budget wary student (that's me by the way). The travel advisory section is worth the money alone, add the rest in and both Davey Winder and Virgin Publishing are to be congratulated for putting content before greed. Nice one! We found it fantastic reading before we went, deciding what we did and didn't want to see and even more useful when we actually got there. It is also small enough to carry around with you but big enough to fit everything into. There are sections on good shopping, resturants etc. as well as a guide to landmarks within the city. However, when I started actually reading it, I quickly changed my mind! It isn't a traditional guide book such as Lonely Planet, Let's Go, or Time Out (though I heartily recommend all three of those, as well), but instead is completely categorized in a very easy-to-read fashion. The categories are divided as such: shopping, restaurants and cafes, bars, clubs, gay scene, entertainment, events, sights, body and soul (beauty and hair essentially), games for a laugh, hotels, practical information, transport, phrasebook, and maps. But in the front, you can also look up a specific arrondissement to find out which of the above categories ...
