Alex Kavas first book in the Maggie O' Dell series 'A Perfect Evil' was very impressive and blew me away. Unfortunately the 2nd and 3rd helpings from the series I found to be less than impressive.
This book had such high potential. The story was there, I was really intrigued by the 'religious cult' theme and thought it really halped it along. And also the character of Julia Racine i found to be very intriguing and was a good character to be added to the series.
However there seemed to be alack of character development on the behalf of Maggie O' Dell and also Tully and his relationship with his daughter. A few chunksof the book seemed to be dedicated to delving into the relationship between Tully and his daughter however it seemed ... Read More:

Slavoj surely knows a thing or two as his pencil edges and foments this peeling of insecure certitudes teetering vertiginously over emblematic brinks before cautiously loping into the exact core of the intertextual debate and t/hen deftly rescuing the dangerous (posit)ion(ing) of Jacuzzi Derrida on this (as on so many other) matters before - until with a flash and a grin and before you can say "J'accuse!" he has discursively bounded into the sacral territory generally reserved for the unravellings of Walters Benjamin and Disney pace Cagney after Kant on Griselda and Jackson Pollock.

.Rumi (Everyman's Library Pocket Poets)

by: Jalalu'l-Din Rumi

June 06, 2006
This poetry book is among my top favorites. The poetry of Rumi gleams and sparkles with meaning for modern times ... amazing as it was written in the 1240s A.D. The natural imagery used is always surprising. He never fails to capture human emotions and the human condition, using original and sometimes highly provocative but very 'on-target' terms.

The subject matter of each poem is varied, although the theme of the book is 'work' ... it really is about much, much more than work. I can not praise the themes of the poems and contents of this book enough. One outstanding poem uses "grapes" as imagery. Rumi describes for the reader, "How It Is with Grapes". When they are immature they jostle competetively in the bunch ... after maturing, ... Read More:

by: James Patterson

March 25, 1993
James Patterson has once again excelled himself. In "along came a spider" we are reunited with the character of Alex Cross as he attempts to save the life of two children, snatched from their families. We are once again moved by his devotion to his own family and his strong values and character. Cross is a man that we instinctively long to know and he is brought to life in this book through his work, his courage and his passion. Although I found it hard to fault this story I was marginally disappointed by the ending as I felt that it was slightly cliche although the majority of the story left me wondering what was going to happen next. Fans of Patterson will love the book as much as the others, and newcomers will want to read the whole ... Read More:

I would recommend this "existentialism Bible" to only two types of believer-

a)the serious philosophy student who has to read it because their tutor said so

b)prisoners of war or similar, as a method of torture.

This is tedium incarnate. What Jean-Paul does is spend 650 cursed pages rambling aimlessly and vaguely about the nature of existence only to draw such earth-shattering conclusions like "consciousness is consciousness of consciousness" and (too) many other frankly useless anecdotes.

For something bordering on relevance, I'd urge those still compelled to explore existentialism to instead read something by Camus, a superior writer who doesn't suffer verbal diarrhoea (J-P seems to repeat himself ... Read More:
