Muhammad Yunus is obviously a brilliant man and the work he has been involved with in Bangladesh is impressive. I was familiar with his work with Grameen Bank before I read this book but had not read any of his other books.

This book is written in an easy to read style and is mostly Yunus' personal manifesto for ending poverty in the world. I suspect if you have read his other book then there will be quite a lot of repetition in this one.

The book seems to be mostly based around four themes.

1. The Grameen Bannk and related companies and their success (mainly) as a tool to empower poor women and allow them and their families to escape poverty in Bangladesh.

They created their industrial and financial bases for a variety of reasons, the overriding being personal greed and to quench an insatiable thirst for personal power. 'For the good of humanity' whilst never a deliberate intention was, nevertheless, an accidental by-product of The Tycoons nefarious wheeling and dealing in pursuit of wealth and dominance.

Charles Morris tells the comprehensive but not unnecesarily over-detailed account of The Tycoons sometimes individual and sometimes overlapping commercial machinations. The result is a highly readable and interesting account of a pivotal period in the evolution of The American Supereconomy.

This book has a very concise layout and covers all the information around the Reformation. Under each section (dissolution etc.) all the areas that affected it or were affected seem to be covered. A useful read for a good overview and helpful information, especially to help with essays. The opinions of modern historians save a bit of reading other long books!

I recently bought this book from Amazon.co.uk and I can say that it is well worth a read. I know that there are loads of memoirs out there from soliders fighting in the various allied armies, but I jumped at a chance to read a book from the frequently under-represented German persepctive.

The author writes very well and I felt that he was able to portray the sheer terror of fighting on the Eastern front very well. One engagement in the early part of the book really had me on the edge of my seat as I wondered how they would repel an attack frmo Soviet armour without any ATG's etc.

Great book, great author, great read.

If the British public thought Iraq and Afghanistan British Army casualities are bad they should read this book, 1,300+ killed in 27 years.

At last the true story of the men and women of the British Army, Regular and UDR who actually fought the war and the true heroes along with the RUC that brought peace to that troubled part of the UK.

You don't get them much better than this. It is an absolute classic. Foreign Office Mandarin turns MP, then joins the LRDG, the SAS and finally becomes "our man" in Yugoslavia with a brief to find "this Tito chap" that nobody really believes existed.

Sir Fitzroy certainly led a remarkable life, which he vividly describes, whilst at all times remaining understated. He comes across as a person who almost by accident stumbles into fortune and adventure and at times gets away with some of the most remarkable stunts. This gives him the gentlemanly and humourous appeal, which I am sure has led many to believe that he was a source of inspiration for Fleming's 007.

Having previously read Corelli Barnett's "Collapse of British Power" I was interested to read a contemporary American view on Britain's role in the two world wars.
The subject is immensely complex and it is nonsense to say "British resonsible" for X or "Churchill responsible for Y". Thankfully, unlike some of the other reviewers here, Buchanan does not do this but instead builds a picture from his perspctive as an American (with biases one would expect). The evolution of the disasters was a mix of misunderstanding, secret plots, blunders etc. as well as cool calculation and strategic moves. Churchill made horendous errors, but then so did just about every participant. (and let's face it - who doesn't!) The Polish leadership comes off very badly for example. If only Colonel ... Hoffman has captured with force some of the key players in the transistion from failing communism state to aspiring capitalist society. The finest book of its kind to date. Well worth a second, third or even fourth read.

If you're looking for a way to explore Spain from within your own house then this book is key. It provides a surprisingly in depth, if a little mistake-ridden (publishing deadline closed in too quickly?) work full of incredible detail, although never boring. It takes you through most aspects of Spanish life from the Catalans to the PP. A great buy, if you're really interested, but not ideal to 'dip' into.

I used this book for a school report and although I had about 7 other books, I mainly used this one. It discussed all of the main trends in Chinese History and well as having pictures and little "focus" pages, which specialized in topics cruical to each era.
I think it was a great book also after since it was easy to read and understand. It was by no means difficult to read, but at a perfect level for discussing topics. A very good book!
