Ms. Armstrong, who spent some time in a convent, started off by writing about Semitic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). These religions are relatively close to each other theologically, and she did a good job. Then she started ranging wider, and turned to the East, writing about Buddhism. In the present book, she adapts a wider view and goes to the origins of the present major faiths, both Eastern and Western.

It would be a wonderful approach, except that it is marred by two fatal flaws: First, Ms. Armstrong is not really familiar with the Eastern traditions, having picked up most of her understanding from English language editions of secondary books. I first read this when I was 12 in the early '70's, and snapped this up as soon as I saw it has been re-printed.

Gibson started right at the beginning of the war in Bombers, did a stint in nightfighters (he was due for rest, but wouldn't accept the genuine break from the war that his superiors wanted him to have), then went back to Bombers through to his being killed in a raid over Germany after he returned to front line duty post Dambusters' raids.

This autobiographical book chronicles the aerial bombing campaign, and, as well as recording Gibson's personal experiences, the people he knew, and some of the scrapes that they got up to on base, charts the developing sophistication of RAF Bomber Command's tactics and aircraft. ... Read More:

We are very fortunate that this anonymous woman kept a diary of the terrible events that happened to her and many other German women living in berlin at the end of WWII,because otherwise this is a part of history that would forever remain hushed up.
The author writed with total honesty and clarity,without any self pity and even with a touch of black humour.This is a really fascinating diary written using the authors journalistic talent.It's a shame she never received the credit she deserved for this important piece of history within her lifetime.

An adsorbing and fascinating account of a true war hero and his life as a campaigning soldier. This edition is spoilt however by having been rewritten for the American market and therefore loses some of it's meaning from the original and in places can read like an American war film and all that that encompasses.
It's particularly disappointing that at the end of the book, on page 424, there is a table of Wehrmacht and SS rank comparisons against US ranks but a list of British ranks is not given.
Overall try to buy the 1994 English edition if you can, but this edition is certainly well worth reading if the English edition cannot be found.

Whether you are studying the Russian Revolution or just want to gain some knowledge on it, this book is a must have. Michael Lynch clearly explains everything, and does not do what is common in historians, leave you confused. The simplicity of this highly detailed book is something you don't come across often. If you are doing the Russian Revolution for AS or A Level, trust me, this book is your bible!

An interesting scenario, but I got blogged down in the very detailed descriptions of individual units fighting a series of very detailed battles. Not quite what I was expecting or looking for, but the concept has potential.
