. The Very Hungry Caterpillar [Board Book]
City Travel Guides > Children & Baby Books > Books for Babies
by: Eric Carle
September 29, 1994
An infamous short tale of the caterpillar that munches its way through the edible obstacles on each page, until it becomes a butterfly. Arguably the most famous of the Eric Carle short stories, The Hungry Caterpillar symbolises the journeys things take in the world in order to accomplish something great. Themes in this book include the virtue of patience and the fact that things can sometimes take a surprising turn.
`The Hungry Caterpillar' shows all the great hallmarks of a young children's book, in that it easily lends itself to the curriculum and is as simple as it is equally open to in-depth interpretation. Possibilities of further learning include additional studies of phonics, links with food technology (fruits and their ... Read More:

. Faces (Baby's Very First Book)
City Travel Guides > Children & Baby Books > Books for Babies
from: Macmillan Children's Books
October 25, 2002
I bought this last xmas for my son, who was then 3 months old. He was interested in it as soon as he got it - initially just looking at the pictures when I turned the pages. He then learned to turn the pages himself and loved the Daddy and Baby pictures the best - they always made him smile, as did the mirror on the front and he also loved to crinkle the pages. He loved this book! Even now, at just over a year old, I keep it in his cot as he still plays with it sometimes when he wakes up from a nap. He now absolutely loves books and am sure this fab initial introduction helped.
I cant recommend this highly enough! Am buying it this year for my new niece.

. Where's Spot? (Lift-the-flap Book)
City Travel Guides > Children & Baby Books > Books for Babies
by: Eric Hill
October 30, 2003
I bought this several months ago for my little boy, who is now 16 months old. Although he loves his books, bringing me a book to read to him several times during the day, this has never been one of his favourites. Despite that, this is the only "lift-the-flap" book that he has managed to tear off one of the flaps from (and he has several of these books). I guess that babies have different tastes in books (just like adults) but I think it could have been made a lot sturdier. For example, we have had no problems with "Dear Zoo" which has been read a lot more times.

. Guess How Much I Love You
City Travel Guides > Children & Baby Books > Books for Babies
by: Sam McBratney
July 01, 1996
With beautiful pictures and lyrical text this is a book you can start reading to your little one from a very early age. Even though my little boy doesn't understand he loves the pictures of big and little nutbrown hare and he knows its about love because of the tone in my voice and the big hugs!
Also it's great for dads: normally depictions of love in children's books seem to be a Mum and a baby; Big Nutbrown Hare is the father!
Because it's a bit more "wordy" than most baby books I think it's good for youngsters to learn that the weird squiggly black things (letters!) have something to do with the story too.
