I have to agree with the writer of the 1-star review that the actress who plays Elphaba on Broadway (and is featured on the cd) definitely has a disappointing voice compared to the West End actress. However, I do think that the actors playing Glinda and the Wizard, in contrast, have a better voice on Broadway, compensating a little for Elpahaba. I really do hope that a West End version of this cd will become available at some point.

. Neverwhere: The Author's Preferred Text
by: Neil Gaiman
September 19, 2005
This was one of those books which I really wanted to be better than it is. I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman's Sandman series, which I think was an incredible achievement. Unfortunately Neverwhere really suffers by comparison.
The concept of an alternate London hidden behind the 'real' one is fascinating, and as an adventure it rolls along at a cracking pace. However some of it is pretty simplistic, which came as a real surprise compared to the intricacies of the Sandman saga.
For example, having a character who has the ability to open any door (and other things) is interesting, but calling that character 'Door' is a bit simplistic.
On the whole it's an enjoyable read, just not Gaiman's finest work.

I ordered this book but upon seeing it immediately returned it. The binding is cheap-looking. The texts are badly layed out on the page with no standard way of differentiating between each chapter or the start and end of each book.

. Wonderful Welcome to Oz (Modern Library Classics)
by: L. Frank Baum
June 02, 2006
This edition of Baum's "Marvellous Land of Oz", "Ozma of Oz" and "The Emerald City of OZ" is great for those reader's only familiar with Baum's first Oz novel. The book is well compiled with the original illustrations by John R. Neill.
The introduction by Gregory Maguire (author of "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) is informative and it is really interesting to read why and how these three texts interest an author whose biggest selling book is a novel based on these children's books.
This edition also includes a brief biography of Baum, suggestions for further reading and a reading group guide.
This is a marvellous edition!!!

. Pirate Queen [Us Import]
by: Original Broadway Cast Recording
July 03, 2007
Whilst I am very fond of both 'Les Miz' and 'Miss Saigon' on the whole, I cannot recommend 'Pirate Queen' as being of the same standard at all. (I found 'Martin Guerre' very uneven too). On first listening, it all seemed OK but with subsequent listening, a lot of the music seemed overdone or just plain 'ordinary'. It seems that the musical inspiration of the writers has waned to such an extent that I won't seriously search out any more from Boublil & Schonberg; which is a great pity. They proved that 'Les Mis' was not a 'one hit wonder' when 'Saigon' did so well, (although I confess that I still cannot stand to hear 'American Dream' repeatedly!) 'Pirate Queen' has a strange tendency to irritation; the lyrics are workmanlike but not inspired (an attempt to invoke ... Read More:

. Still I Can't Be Still
by: Idina Menzel
June 02, 2006
I'm a big fan of Idina's and this album has been so underrated. Her songwriting skills are excellent and her voice just goes without saying. She is one of the few Musical Theatre stars who can make her solo music so far away from Musical Theatre, it's superb. This album has everything from ballads, upbeat songs to rocky songs. There isn't a song I dislike on this album! If you like this you'll certainly like her second album 'Here'. Look out for her 3rd album being released in Autumn sometime xD Here's hoping she can tour the UK with it.
