. Germany, 1919-45 (Heinemann Advanced History)
by: Martin Collier, Philip Pedley
June 20, 2000
This book is fantastic, it gives a clear, cut and consise overview of the German History period from 1919 - 1945.
It supports AQA, OCR and Edexcel Exam boards AS/A Level and gives the necessary jump from GCSE to AS to A Level.
The Book Covers -
Weimar Germany 1919-29
The Rise of the Nazi Party
Nazi Germany 1933-1945
Weimar and Nazi Germany
This book is what text books aimed at there intended audience should be like, once again Hinemann have got it right again.
It even provides some further reading for GCSE students, but GCSE students should primarly stick to there exam board accredited exam books, only to use this for further reading.

. Lenin and the Russian Revolution (Heinemann Advanced History)
by: Steve Philips
July 04, 2000
This book gives a great overview of the russian revolution and is an easy and interesting read that serves as a great introductory basis for an A level student or even anyone whose vaguely intrigued by the subject. It is not as overwhelming as other books tend to be, and has a decent structured layout when explaining the different perspectives involved. I only gave it 4 stars because despite the positive factors of the book, it can only be used as gaining an overview and brief knowledge of the events in the russian and although this provides a little and not too complicated understanding,I was expecting more depth. On the whole it was a great book.

. The Rise of Italian Fascism (Questions in History)
by: Andrew Boxer
March 20, 2000
In this book, Professor Alan White points out six institutional features of Italian Fascism. The first was the existence of an official ideology covering all aspects of social existence which envisaged the society as moving towards a final state of man. This chiliastic doctrine legitimized the means to achieve that end and involved a radical rejection of the existing order. The second was a single, hierarchically organized mass party led by one man. The third one was a system of terroristic police control directed against the enemies of the regime. The fourth one was a technologically conditioned monopoly of the means of mass communications. The fifth one was a monopoly of force. The final one was the central control and direction of the entire ... Read More:

. The Cold War (Heinemann Advanced History)
by: Steve Phillips
July 25, 2001
This is one of a series of books that is written especially for the 'new' AS and A2 exams. Whilst the book has its uses as a reference guide, it really does show how badly A levels have been dumb downed. Interpretations are simplistic, tables of historiography are included so that students don't even have to read other books and complex arguments are bullet pointed to such an extent that this is really just a glorified GCSE textbook. In addition, the book is littered with inaccuracies. Please avoid.

. Extension of the Franchise: 1832-1931 (Heinemann Advanced History)
by: Bob Whitfield
June 27, 2001
I found this incredibly useful for my studies, particularly the third section on representation and democracy 1832-1931. It's very clearly written and breaks downs the key areas of historical intepretation and analysis which you need to get a grip of inorder to achieve a top grade. As a previous reviewer has noted it may well be a little thinner on the detail than some A level texts, but there is more than enough to fill any exam essay several times over. My only quibble is that at the end of each of it's three main sections there are questions in the style of either AQA or Edexcel exam boards. However the Edexcel versions aren't correct, either they are source based questions when they shouldn't be or vice versa. But no matter, the content here ... Read More:
