. The Italian Risorgimento (Seminar Studies In History)
by: Martin Clark
August 03, 1998
This book clearly explains the resorgimento and movement for Italian unification. There are a small number of primary sources at the end of the book which allow you to read first hand accounts of the fight for unity. There is some in depth analysis of the period up to the European Revolutions of 1848/49, however, it is post 1849 that the book contains the most information. Throughout the book there are reminders about the cause and consequences of each of the events that led to unification. The period before 1848 is covered, although this is concise and if you are studying this period in depth further material would be required. This also applies to the chapter about the Revolutions of 1848/49, whilst the book places events on a clear timeline ... Read More:

. Germany, 1919-45 (Heinemann Advanced History)
by: Martin Collier, Philip Pedley
June 20, 2000
This book is fantastic, it gives a clear, cut and consise overview of the German History period from 1919 - 1945.
It supports AQA, OCR and Edexcel Exam boards AS/A Level and gives the necessary jump from GCSE to AS to A Level.
The Book Covers -
Weimar Germany 1919-29
The Rise of the Nazi Party
Nazi Germany 1933-1945
Weimar and Nazi Germany
This book is what text books aimed at there intended audience should be like, once again Hinemann have got it right again.
It even provides some further reading for GCSE students, but GCSE students should primarly stick to there exam board accredited exam books, only to use this for further reading.

. The Unification of Italy (Lancaster Pamphlets)
by: John Gooch
May 15, 1986
This is an excellent book to be read when you are first apporaching the period, or are reading purely for pleasure. However, if you are studying the period (as I have done for AS Level History) the book is not really detailed enough to be of much use. The book, as with others in the series, has a timeline which helps put events in perspective and particularly focuses on the events following partial unification in 1860/61. The author, John Gooch, has chosen to adopt a style that informs us of the established opinion rather than challenging the accepted view. The book also includes some 'primary sources' and these are a good inclusion, however, the ones in the Seminar studies book of the same name I found was an improvement. The book is short and ...
