. Sicily (Lonely Planet Regional Guides)
by: Paula Hardy
May 01, 2005
I've just returned from 5 days in Sicily, where I visited Erice, Agrigento and Palermo and some other parts of the west coast.
For these areas, I found the book very useful and informative, in particular the Palermo section. As usual it was set out well and was easily to use. I imagine the other sections are just as useful.
The only thing it didn't mention was that while it might be the best beach in Sicily, the rocks behind are yielded some of our major break throughs in understanding climate change!
I would reccomend this book and prefer the layout to the rough guides I have used for other places in the past

. Sicily (Eyewitness Travel Guide)
from: Dorling Kindersley Publishers Ltd
February 01, 2007
Sketchy and hastily put together. Despite having been updated several times, this guidebook still gets the orientation of Corso Vittorio Emmanuele in Palermo wrong. It does not run north to south. This is based on an Italian publication so there's really no excuse. It also doesn't tell you how to get from the airport to Palermo. The photos are ok though.

. Blue Guide Sicily (Blue Guides)
by: Ellen Grady
June 23, 2006
This is the first time I have used Blue Guide Sicily. Being a local myself, I have always been quite pedantic and fussy about how detailed and accurate information on Sicily has been researched and presented. I can only say that this is a fantastic guide, very detailed in the historical and artistic descriptions and also very "poetic" in the "quasi-visual" descriptions of the places and of the Sicilian people. The guide gives accurate listings of hotels and places to eat and drink which are reasonably up-to-date and - thank God - not very "faddy". This is maybe a bit of a turnoff for the younger crowd looking for the "hottest spots". But if you are looking for well-established restaurants, bars and hotels with charm and history, this is the ... Read More:

. Midnight in Sicily (Panther)
by: Peter Robb
May 06, 1999
This is an excellent book, but although there's some original stuff, it's really more a synthesis of the works of others than anything else. While Robb pulls it all together extremely well, he fails to attribute his sources adequately, using italics in an awkward and, for a reader, distracting fashion where he quotes other writers. He also neglects to relate specific quotes to their sources, which may have been an editorial decision intended not to put off the more casual readers. Nevertheless, this makes for a frustrating read at times. I kept seeing the work of Norman Lewis, in his riveting and beautifully written book The Honoured Society, quoted here without any direct attribution, and returned to that book often as I was reading Robb's. ...
