I purchased this book for a recent trip to Italy and I couldn't have done without it.

The menu reader was excellent as was the section on travel. Many Italians were just impressed I tried.

Many of the words were also put into useful phrases and the more difficlt words were spelt out phonetically for ease of pronunciation.

I would reccomend it for any trip around Italy.

Have just returned from a 5 day trip in Rome, using this little guide as one of the books used whilst there. It was very helpful, although it's quite tiny it was packed full of useful information, with good pictures, descriptions and advice. Although the maps only focus more on the centre of Rome they were adequate for our needs 4 days out of 5, as good as the map handed to us by our hotel.

Not only was this book helpful when choosing where to stay - information was accurate and relevant - it was also invaluable in terms of finding ways to save money (which is a must in Venice!).
But the best feature about this book was its information on the places to visit. It saved us a fortune because we didn't need to buy guide books for any of the venues!
The book is written with fascinating tidbits of information, many of which will make you smile and laugh, so be careful not to read in church if you're not prepared to stifle your laughter.

Long story short, this is not a guide book, more like an interesting appendix to one.

Positives:
- An interesting read that gives a real flavour of Rome
- Gives you ideas of other things to see

Negatives:
- No map! So it tells you what to see, but then you have no way of getting there!
- Only useful for a longer trip

In conclusion great if you're going to Rome for a few days, or just loath being herded around with the rest of the tourists.

Either way you're going to have to buy a detailed road map too.
