Very funny, and surprisingly accurate portrayal of the English and their behaviour. Covering aspects such as our love of the 'nice cup of tea' through to our insistence on always being 'sorry'. Well worth a read.

If only this book were longer. When it arrived I was rather taken aback - just 60 pages? Surely not! What can I learn about the Germans in 60 pages?

Quite a lot, as it turns out. This book launches straight in with a very amusing look at the Germans, giving a brief discussion of their history and how the German nation came to be and then detailing many of the quirks and habits of this fascinating nation. The authors give a few ideas how the Germans have been so successful, particularly in terms of literature and music (Goethe, Bach, Kant) but also show some of the angst and problems that the German nature can cause for the people.

Americans don't seem to have a sense of humour about themselves. This book is not funny, it totally misses its point. In comparison to Xenophobes Guide to the British or the Germans, which both tell a hilarious truth, this book just wants to stay clear of any possible insult. And sorry, that is not what this series is about. This series describes various nations in a stereotypical way and nevertheless bears some truth. It ridicules specific ways of life, but in a "we like you anyway"-fashion. Don't buy this one!

I have read many of the 'Xenophobe's guides' and this one, once again hits the mark, spot on! I have several Spanish friends and have lived in Spain for several months and this book reminded me of many of the funny incidents I've had with the Spanish. Without going into excessive detail and in a very humorous way, the book gives you so much information about the real nature of the people and the country. I couldn't put the little book down and read it in a matter of hours. I find myself dipping into it now and again just to remind me of the Spanish way.

Didn't know what to expect of these little guides and was pleasantly surprised how good it was, as I've lived and worked in NL five years now and feel that I too know the place and the people a little. As far as I'm concerned the author has made a well-observed and accurate sketch of life here, amusingly written without patronising. Definitely a recommendation for anyone wanting a light, informative account of the Netherlands.

As an introduction to the Poles this is really useful. It has contributed to our market knowledge and helped to develop customer service strategies and new product development and branding for all of our staff. Superb series.

I bought the book for working out in Sweden as part of my University course this year. When asked by my wonderful Swedish hosts how I found Swedes and Sweden I couldn't help thinking and feeling that Sweden and the UK are an exact mirror image of one another in terms of culture, religion and many other things.
So a great help to me in discovering wonderful Sweden where I hope to eventually live.
