I couldn't do languages at school, wasn't bad at other things, but with languages I always had a kind of block in the brain. But having a partner and his family who spoke French made me try to learn as an adult, and this has truly helped me. I'm not going to tell you that I'm suddenly fluent, but listening to this CD made me realise that I could do it. I learnt the whole CD after several listenings and felt a real achivement, and it spurred me on to learn more (I went onto Michel Thomas who is great). I'm actually enjoying language learning now which I didn't before, and it was because this CD made French accessible to me, if not providing a huge range of vocab. I have a few of these CD's as I'm learning 3 languages (yes I'm obviously insane) and they are fantastic ways of learning. The guys voice is very sexy, which makes me want to listen more but the way it is set out makes it so easy to learn.
I have two children, 6 and 8 and even they are saying German phrases after listening to the cd a few times. The music is not as you'd imagine, it's not like hardcore pop tunes, but the tempo etc is enough to get your memory firing up.

Quality idea, I wish I'd though of it myself. Better than any book or other language course I have tried.

This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

This is a very clear and precise start on the road to learning German. It is, however, orientated towards children. The CD is excellent and I would definately recommend it as a starter course.

I bought this last week and it's brilliant - I've just ordered the second volume. It totally suits my way of learning and is very easy to use. it does work rapidly and is much more pleasnt to listen to than those dreadful CD's with mock conversations in them. i'm really enjoying using it. HIghly effective - would recommend! :)

This learning pack is great, it teaches you everything you need to know about German. The step by step guide which uses the CD and book is very thorough and easy to understand. If your an adult and willing to spend half an hour a day learning German, then this is the ideal product for you

As someone returning to German and trying to brush up on lost vocabulary I am finding this useful, even though it's clearly a kid's book. It's just more fun to sit browsing through this of an evening, rather than scrolling through long lists of vocab. More useful, I would imagine, in a classroom situation, as the large pictures would surely make for great Q and A sessions... direct the postman to the post office.... tell the little girl where her dog is.... describe what's under the window etc etc etc... The illustrations are very sweet too.

I was recently sent on a one week intensive German course by my company. When i returned i wanted to find a way to build on everything i had learned. I only wish i had read this book before i attended the course.
Through constant exercises and continuous introduction of new vocabulary the reader quickly becomes familiar with the structure of the language. This in turn, rapidly builds confidence and enables the reader to speak with confidence. It is far more effective than courses involving tapes and CDs...

I have just moved to Germany and did a standard CD course from the local library in the UK (BBC?). It gave me some basics that got me through a few months of being here. I could ask for some coffee and count but it did not give me a foundation on which to build.
I felt that I took a bit of a risk in buying MIchel Thomas because it seems expensive but I am so glad that i did. I have been using the CDs in half term and have managed to get thought half the course without having to repeat anything. I can also practice it straight away and have been praised on my german already!! It is easy to look up words in the dictionary and place them in the correct part of the sentence. I think that the locals here respect the fact that you are being polite.

I very much enjoyed the learning experience and found it stuck but then when speaking to Chinese (mandarin speakers) they couldn't understand me. The tape doesn't focus on the tones and intonations needed for Mandarin. I switched to a Harold Goodman audiobook and found I was much more understood because of the focus on the correct intonations. Maybe these tapes work well with other languages as the music in the background does seem to help the learning experience but I found them of little use for Mandarin.
