 Rating:  - Long book, short review.I dont wanna write a book explaining this thing, but, even if youre just a part time backpacker, hiker or camper, this is a book you want to invest in. Lots of good information on lots of areas in the world. There is some stuff in here that should be common knowledge, but will teach you new things you never would have thought. All and all, for 13 bucks, if the book helps even once while in the wilderness, you got your moneys worth. Its a must read/have for alot of people, from weekend warriors to that hardcore survivalist in your family. Rating:  - Scattered, too wide a scope, not usefulI don't understand the rave reviews on this book. For one, it tries to do too many things (badly) instead of concentrating on solid wilderness survival. I wanted to like it, but it has inconcistincies all over. It tries to cover (very badly...main advice "wear protective gear full body") even chemical attacks, flood, drought, etc. (where's the section on locust, and frogs?) Seriously, they oversimplify complex things, that in my opinion have ZERO chance of working in the field (bolero? throwing stick?) and terrible illustrations that don't illustrate. Spear launcher, sheesh. a guy would die out there trying these things. It is incomplete in it's advice (snares...you gotta know how to get your scent off of it) he should have written ... Rating: - "Comprehensive" doesn't begin to describe this book If you ever wanted to know ANYTHING about survival in the wilderness, it's in here. There's so much info in here, though, you might have to spend a few minutes finding it. One of the definitive books in the field. Rating: - a must haveEvery time I open this book, I'm amazed at how much information is packed in the 570 pages. Covers everything you need to know, plus some. A great buy, at a great price. |
