. Batman: The Killing Joke
by: Alan Moore, Brian Bolland
March 19, 2008
This is one of the most intriguing origins that have been created for the Clown Prince of Crime. This, along with the Jack Napier origin, is definitely a strong one. The artwork is nicely done, and the dialogue is smart and witty. The dark nature of this graphic novel is not for kids, but it is for every one who is a Batfan/Jokerfan. And the killer joke at the end is priceless, typical material from Batman's most notorious enemy.

. V for Vendetta
by: Alan Moore, David Lloyd
April 01, 1995
This is a very interesting tale about police state and the consequences it has on its citizens. Drawings are cute while the story moves at an adequate pace. It is also remarkable the component of rebellion against oppression. I would recomend it for teenagers from 14 years old on. Please note Alan Moore is a comic writer with a sense for complex characters and let's say some deeper issues.

. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 2
by: Alan Moore, Kevin O'Neill
September 01, 2004
Alan Moore's first "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" installment sold itself more on mood, brooding but lighthearted, than it did on story, which I think had something to do with Chinese people in London; six months later I'm not exactly sure. But it was a very quick, devilishly deep read.
"Vol. 2" represents a rather dispirited return to the well, with the League very quickly in tatters and a main storyline, regarding Martians in London now, introduced with some of Kevin O'Neill's horrifically vivid illustrations and then passed over so we can watch the two principal characters in an R-rated sex scene. It didn't really grab me as a story, and as a mood piece put me off to the extent I had any sentimental attachment in the characters at all.

. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier
by: Alan Moore
November 13, 2007
Several years ago I came across Alan Moore's THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMAN and was blown away. I was an English major in college and I honestly learned more about books and some of their key plot points from reading LoEG than I did from many of my literature classes. I loved the concept of bringing together figures from different pieces of fiction and uniting them into a covert team secretly working for the benefit of the human race. I was even more impressed a few years later after reading Vol. II in the series and was quite excited by the news that a third volume was in the works. But, that was before I actually got my hands on the third volume, THE BLACK DOSSIER and had a chance to read it.
THE BLACK DOSSIER takes place over fifty years when ... Read More:

. Swamp Thing Vol. 1: Saga of the Swamp Thing
by: Alan Moore
February 23, 1998
With Swamp Thing, Alan Moore, one of the most talented authors in comic book history, rewrote the rules. I picked this up 20 years ago and am still amazed. Steve Bissette and John Totleben are probably my favorite art team in the history of comics. This is close to their start, so it's a little rough around the edges, but still way above and beyond the vast majority of most illustrators out there. Steve drew the amazing layouts, destroying storyboard conventions, and John tightened the loose sketches up into works of art. This was hugely influential when it came out, and still a highlight of work in graphic storytelling to this day. Many people copied, but few could rival, Alan Moore's dark and serious style.
This may not be well received by the standard comic book ... Read More:

. From Hell - New Cover Edition
by: Alan Moore, Eddie Campbell
February 23, 2000
From Hell is a literary tour de force, one of many from legendary comics scribe Alan Moore. From Hell tells the (deeply researched) story of Jack the Ripper, but it is so much more than that. Quite simply, it is a story of London--the city is the book's primary focus and it soon becomes a living, breathing character in the mind of the reader. The amount of thought, effort, and research put into this massive volume is quite astounding and a testament to Moore and artist Eddie Campbell's profound skill at their craft. From Hell, along with Watchmen, is Moore's greatest work and should be read by all. It is a wonder to behold, I'd even go so far as to call it life-changing.

. Alan Moore's Writing For Comics Volume 1
by: Alan Moore, Jacen Burrows
June 24, 2003
Worth it. I am a striving comic creator who works and won't have time to read as much as I did this last summer. If you're a striving comic creator this is great book about the medium not because it teaches you how to write, but because it invokes you to create. The things I already knew that Moore talks about helps reinforce good points of story telling while interjecting Moore's insights to writing.
Warning: You might have to look up some Moore References. As usual, Moore's has a few obscure references you might not have heard or read about. I know who "Eddie Campbell" is to comics but since the essay is older "Campbell" is treated as an unknown source in Moore's Essay. Still I feel since I'm rereading the "Watchmen" this is a "must have" because it gives a behind the ... Read More:
