. The Rough Guide to Argentina 3rd Edition
by: Andrew Benson, Rosalba O'Brien, Danny Aeberhard, Lucy Phillips
February 04, 2008
This was my first Rough Guide purchase as I have always been a fan of Lonely Planet. I bought the Argentina guide since it was published recently and used it specifically for a trip to Buenos Aires. I thought that the information was relatively good in terms of descriptions of neighborhoods in general, but not detailed enough for my tastes. Pricing is difficult, even for a very recent edition, due to the inflation in Argentina. However, I prefer Lonely Plant for giving more substantive historical backgrounds in their guides as well as telling it as it is in their hotel, restaurant, etc. reviews.

. Lonely Planet Japan
by: Chris Rowthorn, Andrew Bender, John Ashburne, Sara Benson, David Atkinson, Craig McLachlan
2003-10
I have lots of guidebooks - and lots of Lonely Planets, for that matter. But despite the fact that they say they are for "independent travellers", I keep finding ridiculous reviews on restaurants and hotels, to the point where I've stopped using them.
The History, Snapshot, and similar sections are great, but if you have a brain of your own - use it. Forget their restaurant and hotel recommendations, as I'm not even sure they visit the places. Sometimes they have history or comments on places that is worthwhile to read, though. All tourbooks may have these drawbacks, to be fair.
Finally, I think I'm going to stop buying Lonely Planet's, though. First, they always act like driving is so scary everywhere, when it's ... Read More:

. Surgical Anatomy of the Heart
by: Benson R. Wilcox, Andrew C. Cook, Robert H. Anderson
October 10, 2005
As a practising adult cardiothoracic surgeon with years of experience in the Operating Room, I was eager to delve into this textbook of surgical anatomy. The stated goal of the authors is to meet the"need for more detailed understanding of the basic anatomy" of the heart. In this 3rd edition, they have added a chapter on cardiac valvular anatomy, and have expanded the treatment of coronary vascular anatomy, while adding more illustrations. Their work has paid dividends, making this a most complete work.
The authors are well-regarded, experienced surgeons and an anatomical pathologist, a natural association for this undertaking. The writers strive for anatomical precision and surgical relevance, and this goal is met.

. The Origins of Christianity & the Bible
by: Andrew D. Benson
2000-07
I was really blown away by this book. The sheer scale of the research and the detail Benson has gone into is commendable in the extreme. It seems that his perspective is to treat the bible as an historical document just as an historian would any other religious text from the era and then systematically explore its various aspects with reference to other materail, beliefs and cultures of the day.
You can really see how the bible reflects the culture at the time the various parts were written and the variety of techniques and sources Benson pulls together make this quite a monumental undertaing on his part.
It seems from its rather twee layout and construction that this is not an undertaking by a large publisher but a labour of love from someone with ... Read More:
