This guide book is full of detailed, and unbiased reviews of restaurants, activities and sight seeing spots. Also, there is plenty of information about places that are off the beaten track. Very helpful.

Have traveled many times to Maui, and thought we knew all the hot spots. After thumbing through this guide, we decided to try Nakalele Blowhole on the North shore. This location is not on the map, and no signs will direct you there. One tip - unless you are into intense, no- or little-trail hiking, take the second route identified in the book. Awesome site, with little tourist traffic. We had been 200 yards from this spot before and never noticed it. This is just one example of the type of information you will get from Doughty in this book. He uses mile markers to guide you to the precise points to turn off. I compared it with three other guidebooks, and this one is hands down by far the best. I also like his sense of humor, and his ability to give us foreigners a realistic taste of the local culture. It is down to earth, not superficial, and it must have been a lot of work to write this guide! The first thing I did when I arrived in Oahu for the second segment of my trip was to go to the bookstore at the airport and buy his book for Oahu.

As with most resort destinations there's no shortage of written material to mull through when planning a vacation. I ordered this book based on the reviews on Amazon and once I received it I put all the other material in the recycling bin. It was simply the best! My only regret is that I didn't order two copies as we're a family of four and quite often we found ourselves arguing over whose turn it was next to look at the book. My teenaged children took a real interest in planning our day excursions using the recommendations in the book. We'll definitely purchase the books written about the other islands in anticipation of our next trip to Hawaii.

Whether you've been there or not, the HAWAII DREAMSCAPES REVEALED books will show you the islands in ways you couldn't possibly see on your own.

As someone who travels a lot in tropical circles, I appreciated not just the incredible shots in the latest book, KAUA'I, but also from where the photographs were taken. Whether flying over mountains or peaking down into caves, the photographers appeared to have picked the best possible position to snap the photo. There was often the feeling that the visitor couldn't even get to most of the book's vantage points.

A stunning collection of one of nature's most spectacular landscapes.

Melanesia is one of my favourite parts of the world, home to beautiful, largely unspoilt islands and unique fauna.
This being the only field guide to the birds of 3 of the Melanesian countries, it was a must have on my recent trip there, and it proved invaluable indeed. It is comprehensive, covering all species known to occur in the region covered, and in fact it allowed me to identify most birds I have seen. Although a few illustrations are poor, even hindering correct id'ing (hence the 4 stars), most were found to be pretty good.
Maps and text are placed opposite the colour plates, which is handy for quickly seeing what species are found on any one given island at all.
The book is also light enough to be portable in the field.
