Episodes 6-9 continue in "No Future for You". They continue the threads of the earlier five episodes and in the way we would expect from Joss Whedon. Here we find out what Faith and Giles have been up to as well as more about Willow's private life and Dawn's indiscretions. Still not enough about Xander and Buffy when I'm so used to them, especially Buffy, being the center of the show. But given that a couple thousand slayers have been triggered the focus should be spread out. Can't wait for the third volume.

Apocalyptic stories and gender politics, two of my favor things to read or watch. "Y: The Last Man -- Unmanned" was intense and gripping. I devoured it and wanted more. I'd heard about this graphic serial for years and am so glad I finally got a copy. I'm not sure I buy the decay of the world quite so much, women are very capable and are in most of the jobs required just not in the majority of many of them, but given this is an apocalyptic fantasy/science fiction story, I can go with the flow to see how things play out.

The first book in Brian K. Vaughan's Y: THE LAST MAN set up the premise: all the males in the world of every species have died except for loser named Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand. In the chaos that follows American society is oppressed by totalitarian Amazons, who are marked ideologically by an intense detestation of all things male (in later books they will even try to tear down structures they imagine are male) and by their ill-informed attempt to mimic Amazons by cutting off one breast (actually, there is no good evidence that the mythical Amazons removed a breast so as to be better archers, and I've been told by women who are actually good with a bow that there is no physiological reason to need to do so).

I kept wondering why Yoricks mother would betray him, she must have know that if the Israelis got him she would never see him again. And why would the Israelis try to kill the astronauts, it almost felt Anti-Semitic it was so irrational. Very weak plot in this story arch.

The second part of the of the book is much better though. It pokes fun at prevous issues and the characters are great. I almost wish we could forget about Yorick and focus on the troup of actors from now on.

This one is probably my least favorite from the series so far. That said, I still give it four stars because I still enjoyed it as part of the overall series. I think what was lacking for me was Yorick. He did not have as much of a direct presence in this volume. I missed his whimsical, rather cerebral humor.

This one is sort of all over the place too. Lots of little snapshots of back-stories and events leading up to the plague.

Brian K. Vaughan continues to churn out awesome volume after awesome volume of "Y: The Last Man." This trade paperback consists of the four issue "Girl on Girl" story arc (that features Yorick, 355, and Dr. Mann aboard a ship that is in big time conflict with a submarine that is a bit too close for comfort) and the one-shot "Boy Loses Girl," which gives us an update on Beth's situation.

Every since the Safeword arc, "Y: The Last Man" has pretty much been solid gold through and through. So when I say that this TPB is the weakest volume in the series since the third book, that's really not a negative remark, because this was a really, really entertaining book. I wouldn't mark it as high as "Safeword" or "Ring of Truth", which contained some of the best ... Read More:

Although I like the previous issue better than this one, Motherland has it's own perks as the story starts to wrap up for our protagonists. Things get a little strange when one of the characters becomes fatally injured, and Yorick almost REALLY dies this time though not of his own occord. I still have no complaints about this series, there's a damn good fight scene, a couple questions finally get answered, and Yorick is still one of the coolest protagonists in graphic novels.

**Siiiigh**... Where do I begin? This is the first review I've ever written, but I felt compelled. While I have to give kudos to the author of this series for tackling the oldest and greatest male fantasy (I swear I've had it since I was a preteen), it could have, and should have been so much better. I've been waiting for a movie with this type of concept to be made for years. To the point I was considering writing a script for it myself (I'm not kidding). When I found out that there was a graphic novel with this concept already made, I was quite pleased and went to the library and picked up the first 4 volumes. After reading the first 4 volumes I have no intention of reading the remainder of this series (I read the synopsis on wikipedia and it doesn't look like I missed ... Read More:

There aren't any jaw dropping revelations or cliffhangers in this volume but the writing and the storyline reaches a higher level of sophistication. Several of the back-stories are also fleshed out.

This is the best book in the series. I really started to like Yorick in this book. And the story begins moving forward after being drifting in the Midwest for a long time. It is well worth the read if you get the opportunity.
