.Eldest (Inheritance) by: Christopher Paolini August 26, 2008 I think I liked this one even better than the first one. Probably because I felt more of a kinship to the characters this far into the story. I've read other reviewers that have accused the writer of stealing the story from George Lucas... comparing it to the Star Wars series. I do not see this comparison. I understand better the comparison to the Lord of the Rings however, but besides there being some elves and dwarves, the comparison ends there. I also don't understand why these books are being accused of copying these other writers when many other books out there have the very same characters... as alot of fantasy writers do. I first picked up Eragon several years ago in a book store after hearing plenty of buzz about its young writer. After snickering through a couple of badly written chapters, clearly by an amateur, I dropped it right back on the shelf. Fast forward to the movie release, a friend told me that it wasn't THAT bad, and that I should reconsider it. I purchased the book in paperback, but still had the same reaction each time I tried to read it. Finally, I was faced with dwindling book space--to the point that I was going to have to get rid of the book unread, so I sat down and read it this weekend. .Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1) by: Christopher Paolini June 25, 2003 OK, so we all get it that Christopher Paolini (CP) incorporated a lot of other works of fiction into his. That being said, let's move on ... I watched the movie version [on HBO multiple times] of this book for almost a year before reading the book. I originally thought the book would follow the movie with a few small exceptions [like how they did the Harry Potter series vs. their books]. Oh, how I was WRONG!! The book is NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIE!! (NOTE: I honestly don't know HOW the movie producers are going to bring the second book [Eldest] to life on the screen since it doesn't follow ANY of the plot points of the first book.) .Eragon / Eldest (Inheritance, Books 1 & 2) by: Christopher Paolini August 23, 2005 I had never heard of any of these books til my son went to Wal-Mart w/ my mother and came home w/ the paperback version. He loves anything that has to do w/ Dragon's and stuff. He was right at the end of the book when the movie came out and the book fell apart on him. He hurried up and gathered all the pages and finished reading it so I would buy him the movie when it came out on DVD. Now let me tell you never have a child read a book and then watch a movie about it they always have to say what is missing. He just finished the second book and he is waiting for the movie to come out on it. Buy the Hard Copies. The Paperback will fall apart in no time. If you are into Dragon's, Fantasy, Harry Potter or anything in that nature then you will want to get this set ... I am an OLD dude, and I have been reading since I was a little tad. I read everything I can get my hands on, or, if I have nothing, even the back of cereal boxes will do. I have to read! I LOVE this series! I have been reading fantasy, and science fiction, Cowboys and Indians, adventure of all kinds, for all of my life. One must remember that Christopher was 16-17 years old when he began this series, so his imagination was able to soar. Yes, there is a relationship to the "Dragon Riders of Pern." Yes, there is a relationship to Tolkin, but so what? If you are writing stories of "Smokey the Bear," there will be similarities to other bear stories, So how would one write a story ...
