I bought this for an upcoming trip to Laos and Cambodia. It seems targeted to budget tourists who want to carry only one guidebook and hit the high points of each country. The hotels reviewed are "B" or lower and 3 countries plus Bangkok (which isn't mentioned in the title) are covered in under 400 pages. Another big difference between this and other Footprint guides is that it doesn't mark selected hotels "recommended" or "highly recommended" - one of the many reasons I buy them. If you are the target audience of this guidebook, grab it. .Thailand, 5th Edition (Footprint Thailand Handbook) by: Claire Boobbyer December 25, 2005 I took this book with me on my trip to Thailand and I was glad I did. Its tone is much less that of the wannabe-hipster and more of the seasoned realist. To me, that was very fitting for this country in particular. Much of the subjective criticism within the book was accurate and helpful, such as the honest appraisal of Chiang Mai's night bazaar. Even better were the excellent essays on a the dizzying array of Thai history and culture. They perfectly enhanced what I witnessed firsthand and were not overbearing; I never felt as though I was being spoonfed conclusions. .Footprint Guatemala Handbook by: Claire Boobbyer February 09, 2002 We lived in Guatemala City for 2 years and found most of the other guidebooks for Guatemala spoke of really interesting things the average city dweller couldn't get to on long weekends out from Guatemala City (such as Alta Verapaz). Footprints is chock full of interesting things to do within a four hour drive of Guatemala City which made it perfect for us.
