.Genghis: Lords of the Bow by: Conn Iggulden March 25, 2008 Ok, LotB isn't terrible but it's pretty mediocre historical fiction. I think that the only reason I actually finished it was because the subject matter appeals to me. (That's also the only reason why I didn't give it 2 stars). The actual writing is decent but the book seems to be searching (unsuccessfully for a plot). Sure, there is the historical meta-story of the invasion of China but, as a novel, the plot is weak. .Genghis: Birth of an Empire by: Conn Iggulden February 26, 2008 While this novel was a little too brutal and bathed in blood for my taste, I did enjoy the insight into how the young boy Temujin-Uge grew up and eventually fashioned himself into the warrior we all know as Ghengis Khan. .The Gates of Rome (Emperor, Book 1) by: Conn Iggulden February 03, 2004 I thoroughly enjoyed the entire four book series. The melding of history and leadership traits with a readable story made for a fun adventure. I sent the first book to my son who is in Army ROTC and bought another for my wife who enjoyed Griffin's Brotherhood of War series. The author notes historical inaccuracies and licenses he took with the story at the end of each book although he could have broadened these sections to placate the true history buffs.
