In two parts covering different aspects:
1. Quality of the story - Lots of action, lots of great banner artwork of lots of heroes fighting lots of bad guys. If you know the characters you will care and know if so many who die really matter. To me they just seemed like a lot of red shirts.

These grand stories usually fail because they try to cover too much and use every character that ever existed. This series is far from being a failure, but it still left me feeling like something was missing. It does manage to establish several important milestones in the Green Lantern mythos, so in that regard it succeeded. The plot elements are all there, but the execution was uneven. This is where it all started. The present cast of the GLC monthly had their genesis in this trade, where veterans like Guy Gardner, Kilowog, and Mogo were joined by rookies Soranik Natu, Isamot Kol, and Vath Sarn. Parts of this story and its' focus on the enlistment of raw recruits were related to the concurrently running Rann Thanagar War saga. A new Lantern from each respective planet was introduced to the Corps and to each other, with détente being accomplished between them despite their reservations via their unexpected partnership and the ensuing mutual peril that arose from it. This story is a direct follow up to the events that took place in the fantastic Planet Heist mini featuring Adam Strange, and the ramifications that arose from it. At first one may think they need a scorecard to keep track of all of the diverse pieces in this cosmic chess match. There are more involved here than just the two main opponents of Rann and Thanagar. Every major faction of this sector of the universe has chosen sides, with Thanagar itself being divided into two separate and opposing forces, along the lines and directly related to the Seven Devils religious cult, and in the process creating major loyalty problems for Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Shayera. This is a wonderful book and a steal at the Amazon price. It has been as low as $150 but now seems to be climbing again. Don't be fooled and wait for the new edition coming out in October for $50 ($31.50 at Amazon). The new edition features approx. half-size reproductions of 12"x6" as opposed to the FULL-SIZE reproductions of the original gatefolds from the magazine (approx. 22"x11") in this pricier first edition. As a subscriber since the late 60s, this is a great trip down memory lane as well as a wonderful nostalgic look at the playmates that were before my time. It's a revelation to see those Playmates as they appeared for the first time full-size. .Green Lantern Corps. : A Dark Side Of Green

This volume includes two solid green lantern corps adventures.

The first one, deals with a darker commando unit within the corps, known as "the corpse". In this story Guy Gardner deals with some very interesting moral issues about using deadly force, something that will come out again in the Sinestro Corps Wars. Ths second story shows the fungal attack on Mogo and the corps (including a crazy Killowog), and also prepares the way for the war.

All in all, the stories are well written and beautifully drawn.
