.The Trad Guide to Joshua Tree: 60 Favorite Climbs from 5.5 to 5.9 by: Charlie Winger, Diane Winger 2004-09 This is a well written and well illustrated guide for someone new to visiting Joshua Tree National Park. The dozen or so routes we did in this book were all challenging and enjoyable. There are thousands of routes in the Park, but this is a swell introduction for the traditional climber. At this price I don't see why any climber visiting the park wouldn't have a copy. .The Essential Guide to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve (Jewels of the Rockies) by: Charlie Winger, Diane Winger 2003-07 Although the Great San Dunes National Park is the draw, the San Luis Valley has much more to offer than a slide down the dunes or wade in Medano Creek, and the Wingers tell you where to go and how to get there. They also give you the cultural and historical context, flora, fauna and place name translations. Well written and beautifully photographed, this guide is essential for those who come to experience the place as well as the sand. They even suggest renting the classic Japanese film, Woman in the Dunes. .Highpoint Adventures, A Pocket Guide to the 50 State Highpoints by: Charlie Winger, Diane Winger 1999-10 This is a terrific guidebook, but you're missing out on a LOT of updates and additional information by buying this "pocket" edition (the 1st edition published in 1999) instead of the 2nd edition published in 2002. The new version has about twice as many photos, updated maps where things have changed, updates and additional contact information (phone numbers, websites), elevation profile maps, and profiles of people who were some of the "founders" of the hobby of Highpointing (Jack Longacre and Paul Zumwalt). So do another search for "Highpoint Adventures" and look for the newer version. .Highpoint Adventures : The Complete Guide to the 50 State Highpoints by: Charlie Winger, Diane Winger 2002-03 This book and the references it makes, particularly to websites, will give you accurate and fun information about getting to the highest point in each of the fifty states. There is useful general information about hking, and each of fifty descriptions is excellent.
