Have used this book before when travelling around the USA and found this book to be very helpful-details of places to visit are superb reason for the purchase of a new book is we have given the old one to family who are travelling the USA this year.

If you're planning an extended visit to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, I highly recommend this guidebook. (If you're only going to visit the Parks for three or four days as part of a longer trip, however, it's probably more detail than you would need.) We recently visited the two Parks for a total of twelve days, and I found this Guide extremely helpful. Unusually for a guidebook, I actually read it pretty much straight through before we left. It's an enjoyable read, even aside from the quality of the information it presents.

The Moon Guidebooks only seem to have emerged onto the scene within the past several years, and for many readers they are still likely to be less familiar than such old standbys as Fodor's or even ... Read More:

We suddenly decided to go to Alaska in 2 weeks and we needed a good travel guide so we could do a lot of last minute planning quickly. This is it! I was able to make all our arrangements using it (along with the Internet). You can find the information you want easily in this book. I've been to Alaska before and was pleased to find that this is accurate too. I've used a lot of travel books for various trips to other places and frequently end up frustrated with them, but this book has been a total delight. I highly recommend it.

We suddenly decided to go to Alaska in 2 weeks and we needed a good travel guide so we could do a lot of last minute planning quickly. This is it! I was able to make all our arrangements using it (along with the Internet). You can find the information you want easily in this book. In preparation for our two-week trip to Wyoming, I purchased this book and read as much as I had time for beforehand. During our trip, I found it to be a handy reference for whatever area we were in (mostly Yellowstone/Grand Tetons). The detail is great and some of our lodging choices and attraction choices were made with reference to the book and it was always accurate. I highly recommend it for those heading to Wyoming.

Very well prepared, documented, depicted and written book on the inside passage it's towns, histories, culture, people, local establishments, attractions and a lot more. You'll be glad you bought it.

This is an excellent book, giving brief history of areas and well as information on what to see and where to shop. Being an avid shopper, I especially liked the information on shops that handle native-made art. However, I had also purchased "Best Places Alaska: The Best Lodgings, Outdoor Adventures, and Restaurants" by Kate Ripley and they are virtually identical, using the same phraseology. I would recommend either book but not both.

First, beware, this book is largely about the towns surrounding Yellowstone. It has 30 pages on Grand Teton, 90 pages on Yellowstone, and 180 pages on areas outside the parks.

The entire Yellowstone section is lumped into one item in the Table of Contents which means that to find say "old faithful" you have to either check the index or flip randomly through the book.

Lastly, the lack of detail was appaling. For example it said only that Canyon has "various stores and eating places." Such as? A place to get a sandwich? A place for a nice dinner? A store with a good selection of camping gear? No way to know until you get there.
