This book was pretty good, but predictable. To me, the ending seemed rushed. None of the characters stories were never really closed out. Maybe he did that to leave room open for a second book. There were alot of things unanswered for me when I finished the book, but it was still entertaining.

Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. It had more twists and turns than a roller coaster. I was rooting for Chauncey especially after he found out that the man who took his virginity with men was a homophobic nut case. Grayson was truly a scary character. I found myself wanting Chauncey to slap her as hard as he could. I think this book makes a really interesting point. It seems that those who speak out the loudest against homosexuality are usually closeted homosexuals who hate who they are(Donnie McClurkin). I was happy Chauncey came out on top in the end. I was also surprised that Basil made an appearance in this book. I hope to see more of Chauncey in the future. This book is a great buy and I highly recommend it to ... Read More:

In the novel, I Say a Little Prayer, Harris introduces Chauncey Greer. Chauncey is Black, educated, successful, handsome, and bisexual. Set in Atlanta Georgia, the reader follows Chauncey in his quest for spiritual and emotional balance. The journey begins when Chauncey decides to reclaim a singing career that he left behind in his youth and what follows is a tale full of revealing sexual exploits, real life drama, and vivid church scenes. By the books conclusion, Chauncey comes face to face with his painful past and is left with the decision to either hold on or let go.

Several years ago, I was visiting a cousin while taking leave/vacation back to the states from Europe. She happen to have an E. Lynn Harris book called "If This World Were Mine" on the table in the guest room I was staying in. I read it, thought it was a very good book and wanted to know more about this particular author. Mr. Harris has been writing for over the past 15 years, and for the life of me, I don't understand why has one of his books have not been made into a film?

In this particular story, he didn't put alot of emphasis on gay sex, DL brothers or sex in general like his previous books, but express the emotion of what the characters were going through, as far as the current events that were happening in America at the time, like ... Read More:

E.Lynn Harris is a masterful storyteller... Any way the wind blows keeps you intrigued from start to finish...I was expecting a little more closure on some of the issues in the book , but it was none the less a v. enjoyable read... I highly recommend this book to all Mr Harris' fans...

I've read a few of Harris's other books and I have intense respect for the guy as a writer. However, this book did not deliver nearly as strongly as his previous books. The book started out at the pace of my granny walking over a speed bump, but it eventually sped up to pace of my granny in the grocery store with an electronic walker! I gave the book a worthy try too. I LOVED Harris's other works, so I automatically gave up the "if its bad for the first 30-40 pages I'm tossing it to the shelf" ritual. I stuck with it! As page 50 crossed my eyes I thought, "Maybe he's working on something rhetorical, you know how those genius writers are...." Then along came page 70, and then 90! Nothing at all! E. Lynn Harris has one thing to his credit with this sorry attempt at a novel- that is he is probably the first to openly explore gay and 'down low' sexuality in the Black American context. But that is all this and his other books offer. His characters are undeveloped, as is the novel's plot. Making what could have been a rather interesting novel, quite boring. His writing is completely void of any kind of intrigue, vivid description, or even distinct style. One wonders how such poor writing, could have ever been published. Thankfully, I have not bought any of his books- and I will never borrow or read another!
