This is a very well written, organized book for anyone planning to travel to Alaska by cruise ship. It contains very helpful information comparing cruise lines, also. I highly recommend this book.

The book was not up to date. It had information from 2006. It didn't mention the Queen Victoria and the newer ships. I thought I was going to get current information. I wish I had ordered the Fodor book.

Its ok! This book was of little use to me but I do feel it would be useful to some others. I already own Frommers Alaska and Frommers Cruises and Ports of Call. So, I found the information in Alaska Cruises and Ports of Call to be totally redundant. Also, the first 150 pages or so are an intro to cruising, reviews of cruise lines and ships. Only in the final 100 pages are a discussion of "what to see, what to do, where to stay" in Alaska. If you don't have the others then you will like this book but if you have the others then you will find it a "cliff notes" of the other two.

After booking my cruise, I ordered and read this book and realized that the ship I chose was not really the type of cruise I was looking for. I hope the cruise is better than by current expectations. This rates the ships, food, services and destinations. It also helps you match your life styles with the ship's ammentities. It covers the the ports but could offer a little more information on side trips and lunch stops.

I really liked this book. It reminds me of Mike Azcue, Wayne Nugent, Wes Melcher, Dan Stammen, Robert Oblon and Marc Accetta who got involved in World Ventures and it great cruise packages for average people. My friends Dave and Yvette Ulloa went to a few of these great trips and just loved it. I highly recommend cruise vacations book that shows so many great vacations and packages out there.

I bought several books before my Alaska cruise, and this was by far my favorite. It presents all the necessary information about the different cruise lines, ships, routes, and ports of call in an organized fashion without wasting space on glossy photos and rambling chatter. It was very easy to open the book right to the information I wanted. I don't mean to imply that the book is dry, however; the authors do express opinions and the whole thing is a pleasant read. There are nice sections with information about cruising and about the history of the area. This guide does not go into great detail about the larger cities, like Vancouver, but it gives a good overview while still being small and light enough to easily carry on your trip.
