. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
by: Frank Miller
May 01, 1997
I got the four part series several years ago before I sold off all my comics in the late 80's. I recently decided to renew my aquaintance with the series upon seeing Christian Bale in "The Dark Knight".
It is sometime in a dystopian future. Batman has disappeared. Batgirl is in a wheelchair somewhere. Robin is dead. Superman defends a corrupt government.
In book I 50 something Bruce Wayne is disturbed by what he sees happening in Gotham City and decides to resurrect The Batman to combat Punk street gangs who have taked over the streets. In the course of fighting he is rescued by Geek Girl Carey Kelley Who becomes the new Robin. In the end he is victorius and finds many imitators among former gang members.

. Batman: Year One
by: Frank Miller
January 10, 2007
This provides an interesting take on the origins of Batman, but it is equally (if not more) about Lieutenant Gordon's beginnings in Gotham City, which I didn't expect, but also didn't mind. I did enjoy the art and style, and much of the color was particularly impressive to me.
You do get to see a bit of an amateur and clumsy Batman, but I was far more intrigued by Gordon; his various conflicts seemed to hold a stronger influence throughout. If you're looking for a more comprehensive and in-depth portrayal of the origins of Batman himself then I would recommend Batman Begins, which seemed to be strongly influences by this series.
Overall, it was quite good but not great. If you're a fan of Batman or Miller then it's well ... Read More:

. Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again
by: Frank Miller, Lynn Varley
January 01, 2004
The Dark Knight Strikes Again, the sequel to the classic The Dark Knight Returns, was written and drawn by Frank Miller and colored by Lynn Varley. It was originally published as a three-part series in 2001 and 2002.
The story picks up three years after the events of The Dark Knight Returns. The world has become a police-state, led by Lex Luthor, and Batman is at work trying to free superheroes the government has imprisoned and take down the corrupt government.
Strikes Again is thirty pages longer than Returns, and it feels much shorter. In Returns, every panel was carefully arranged. Here, panels are strewn about the page, and there are a lot of full-page spreads that are neither artistic nor helpful to the plot. Miller may ... Read More:

. All-Star Batman & Robin, The Boy Wonder, Vol. 1
by: Frank Miller
July 08, 2008
I can't really tell you what Frank Miller had in his head when he was writing this and the emotions he intended to get out, but what I recieved after reading this was that it was more or less a tounge in cheek look at the character. I mean, (small spoiler) the whole beginning of the scene at the end with the yellow paint has got to be one of the funniest things i've read in a bat-book in years. Take it as you will. If you have a sense of humor I'm sure you won't have a problem with this book. Well, maybe except that they bleep out of naughty words. But it is a comic and I suppose DC feels a kid may pick it up or something. I can't wait for the next trade.

. 300
by: Frank Miller, Lynn Varley
December 15, 1999
If you're a fan of comics, graphic novels, or (especially) Frank Miller, then I'd consider this a must-read. The art and color are both beautiful. Although the movie contains almost everything in the novel, it is still well worth reading even if you've seen the movie. I also enjoyed the movie and thought that a lot of the cinematography was spectacular, and the reason for that is because they remained faithful to the style of the novel.
If you don't own a copy then at least borrow one from a friend or the library and read it because it simply looks amazing.

. Ronin
by: Frank Miller
March 01, 1995
The best graphic novels pull you into a world that may be bizarre, fanciful or exotic, but completely captivating. Ronin makes that grade easily. Beginning as a medieval samurai tale of blood and honor, the tale fast forwards to the near future, where a female supercomputer and a limbless man with unusual mental powers sit at the nexus of a world of biocircuitry in which machines self-assemble without human intervention. There are evil geniuses, demons, and nasty rbots. There are terrific fight scenes, some of which take place in the minds of the the characters. You won't always know what's going on, and a rereading wll be rewarding. But "Ronin"is a rewarding and highly crafted piece divesion that is well worth the time it taks to read and figure out.

. The Hard Goodbye (Sin City, Book 1: Second Edition)
by: Frank Miller
February 23, 2005
I am a huge fan of the Sin City film and since this complete book came with my Collector's Edition DVD set, I finally got around to reading it. It really shows you how much effort was put into making the movie as close as possible to this amazing story. Frank Miller really creates a world that you can fully immerse yourself in. You will feel the grime of Sin City just by looking at the pictures and reading the harsh dialogue. Marv is my favorite character in the movie and we learn a little more about what he is going through and thinking in the graphic novel version. This guy kills almost everyone he comes into contact with (most deserve it), but you will end up caring about him in the end. This is a fantastic read that won't take you more than an hour or so to get through. ... Read More:
