The last few Jane Green books I have read seem to have the exact same people going through infidelity, divorce, pregnancy issues, etc, the only difference is that she changes the characters names.

I really wish Jane Green would get back to writing novels with a main protaginist instead of having the plethera of characters she keeps throwing in her novels. It drove me nuts that once I got involved in someone's story the next chapter moved on to someone else.

I finished The Beach House in one afternoon and all in all I have to say the entire book just had me feeling unsatisfied since there were way too many plots going on and I think she would have been better served in just writing several different books or short ... Read More:

"Second Chance" focuses on the lives of former school friends who are brought back together after one of their old friends, Tom dies in a terrorist attack (yep you read that right a terrorist attack). As usual (or in her most recent novels) Jane Green has way too many characters going through turmoil constantly that does not allow the reader to really engage with any of them.

The characters:

Holly, (who I think Green wants to portray as the main heroine) a mother of two, married to a controlling husband, and now thinks that Tom was the love of her life and who is now dealing with having a crush on Tom's brother.

I usually give chick lits a three-star for various reasons; they're easy to read and it doesn't take much mental energy to read them; they're predictable; they're usually the same, where woman meets boy, falls in lust and gets her heart broken or captures her prince; it's always about single women. I love them. I really do. They used to be my secret ... after all, what serious reader wants to admit she reads them? Well, this one does.

And this one really is fun. I am a married housewife with two small children and though my house is not a McMansion and nor do I wear fancy designer duds, I relate to the peer pressure that is among the women here and always worrying about how the kids are coping in school and so on. .Mr. Maybe: A Novel

The main character basically is faced with two men in her life and she has to choose ultimately who is the best man for her. On one side she has jobless, sporty, sexy and fun guy and on the other a responsible, quiet, wealthy nice man. I won't tell you who she goes for but I will say that most of us at one time in our lives have been in similar straights deciding who to go for. Then you are always left wondering what would have been your life had you taken the other path. An enjoyable read!

I don't usually do reviews, but I always read them before I order books. I know the other reviews were basically good, but I really disliked this book. So much so that I didn't finish it. I forced myself to read at least half-way, and just couldn't go on. What a boring, lifeless piece of junk. Don't waste your money.

.Jemima J: A Novel About Ugly Ducklings and Swans

This was my first Jane Green book. I really enjoyed it. I like her writing style, and there's no doubt that she's hilarious.

Jemima adores the man she works with, but aside from friendship he has no idea she's alive. And after discovering the internet and online dating Jemima meets someone in LA and starts a relationship.
Jemima has 2 love interests that will keep you hooked to read more.

The book basically fits into the typical mold that existed for a while there where the lead female lost weight and then won the man. I hate this message. But in this book, it's pretty funny. It's definitely worth a read.

It's been awhile since I've read Jane Green's books and I definitely needed a lighter and fluffier read to get through the busy days of early autumn. This book fit the bill. It's not one of Green's better books, but it fit the bill.

This one is an inlook in a marriage where the husband cheats and the wife willingly turns a blind eye. In love with the dashing Joe Chambers, Alice remade herself into the woman he claims he needs, tall, blonde, wearing Jimmy Choos and always waiting for him. By the time they moved to the States, Alice had begun to tire of the so-called exciting life of being a promient businessman's wife. I managed to read the Julia segment...I plodded through a bit of Meave, then all I wanted to do was read Julia's reaction to Meave's pregnancy.. and just scanned the remaining pages looking for that. Very boring and silly book!

"Straight Talking" wasn't the first Jane Green book I read; that was "Swapping Lives," which was so fun and frivolous and just plain delightful that I really looked forward to reading the rest of Green's repretoire. "Straight Talking" was an immense letdown. It's self-centered, stuck-up, and the narrator has a practically pathological addiction to sex, somehow thinking that the best of it will magically make all her problems go away. I really, really wanted her to stop talking about her quest for the perfect romp in bed. It's just terrible. No fun at all. Not interesting. Not engaging. Not only could I not relate to Tasha, I wanted to have her involuntarily committed to a psych ward -- especially before she ruined more poor men's lives, and her own health.
