I didn't use a guide much while I was there but when I did, I found my Frommer's guide to be much more interesting, attractive and well structured.

I never use a guide to find restaurants, hotels or any of the major tourist attractions, as I can do all of that on my own. But I count on my guides to lead me to interesting things that I would never see if I didn't have one - the out of the way spots. This book definitely didn't help me with that and most of the things that it includes I could have figured out for myself in about the first 20 minutes of arriving in my hotel.

I used this guide on my first trip to Washington D.C. It was comprehensive and chock full of good, sound advice about the city and its attractions. The restaurant part was exceptional - everywhere I ate was delicious, healthy, unique and well-priced. I am still dreaming about the falafel place in Adams Morgan which was suggested in the book and thoroughly enjoyed, and was not a place I would have pursued on my own.

There are little bits of humor which spring up in unexpected places in the book and they provide a good dose of lightness to the otherwise fairly dense text.

Of course you can always get a D.C. guidebook from DK or Lonely Planet and follow around the rest of the tourists/lemmings while you are on vacation, or you can ... Read More:

I travel alot and typically buy another brand of travel books. My boyfriend actually bought this book, and thank goodness he did since it is the greatest book I have ever used for recommendations on places to shop and eat. Every single place we ate in from this book (and we tried alot), was as described and very very good. I am looking forward to going to travel again using this brand of books!!!

This book was the single best tool to plan and execute a two week tour of Sicily. My wife and I were not only impressed with the maps of each city, but the tips on how to get to and from the airport or train stations was right on the money.

We managed to secure lodging in each city very close to the train stations. This made our day as we traveled to 5 cities over the course of two weeks. I wish I would have consulted this book when the train operators were on strike. The rough guide even had the location and phone number for the bus line running from Palermo to Agrigento.

Each of the lodging blurbs was accurate and we were able to stay in places we wanted for the price we wanted to pay. Times were accurate for sites such as the ... Read More:

this does read more like an encyclopedia than a real travel companion.it doesn't really have alot of pictures of the places it talks about....it is a little on the borring side.
