Wonderful, delicious recipes! Everything from drinks to desserts. I purchased this book for myself and then bought two more for my mother and mother-in-law for mother's day. My mother insisted on having it! We used several of the recipes for my husband's birthday party and the dishes were a hit. Be sure to check out the mac and cheese.

Few travel guides have been as difficult to use as Texas Off the Beaten Path. As an abroad visitor with over thirty 3-4 week road trips in the US and Europe this guide is in the bottom quarter of our planning aids.

Points of interest, events, restaurants and lodgings are all mixed up in narratives where real highlights are hard to discover. Some crucial individual pieces of information are either outdated or otherwise not valid; for instance traditional event dates etc. It is worthwhile to check them on the internet.

This very small booklet on Texas cafes is quite ok, the writing is easy-going and illustrative. But it seems to be intended for locals and Texans. A rough map of the locations could be helpful for out-of-state visitors.

I love the beautiful photos of real cowboys- a nice pictorial history. I am sure the recipes actually taste good, and I am not accusing Grady of not being a real cowboy, I am sure he was. But sadly to me, he continues the trend of taking traditional food, which was fairly simple and tasty in itself, and re-inventing it to make it fancy restaurant fare. Like Barbecued Quail Tamales with Avocado Cream. I ordered it looking for some classic dishes that are so very good, that I might actually make. I started to order another of his books, that has a great title- just what I am looking for, but now really don't think so. I purchased a copy of the fifth edition sometime last year and keep it on the dash of my vehicle - to have handy while traveling. I found it contains details of local "hidden treasures" that are usually only discovered by the locals of the given community. I loaned it to a friend and now he is ordering his copy.

I bought this book before a trip to the Hill Country this past spring. One of the author's suggestions, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip, was to drive the Willow City Loop - we ended up driving it twice because it was so beautiful. We would have never found it without this book, and I've bought several other books similar to this one since our trip and not one of them mentions it.
