.Driving the Pacific Coast Oregon and Washington, 6th (Driving the Pacific Coast Oregon and Washington) by: Kathy Strong March 01, 2006 I was hoping this would be a description of scenic drives along the Pacific Coast Highway (similar to some of the Falcon Scenic Driving guides). It is more of a typical guide book to various locations along the way (sights, yes, but more on restaurants, lodging, etc.). .Driving the Pacific Coast California, 6th (Driving the Pacific Coast: California) by: Kathy Strong March 01, 2006 Brief descriptions of the most common places. Typeset in big font. Not much "insider knowledge" evident -- in one case author recommends a lighthouse in Crescent City (on an island) as a "good place to view whales and winter storms". The lighthouse is not accessible during winter storms (its only twice a day during low tides with no wave action). Frankly we were glad that we did not have to use her book in our recent trip down the coast of California....we found toilet paper in every bathroom so her pages remained in the book ;-) . Her book contributed gloriously to a beach bonfire --it burned well...its only good use. .Recommended Bed & Breakfasts California, 11th (Recommended Bed & Breakfasts Series) by: Kathy Strong June 01, 2006 I rate this book a 4 mainly be the guide has no photos or detailed maps. While most of the places in this book we have visited were in fairly well-populated areas and can probably be google-mapped or mapquested at this point, it would still be nice to see a photo or two. Otherwise the book is well organized and detailed enough. It divides California into different regions, gives recommendations in different price ranges, and gives enough detail about the amenities of each place like style of breakfast, Internet access, free wine tastings, and a few things to do near by. One thing I wish would be addressed (and I do not have a more recent edition) is how "commercial" the bed and breakfast is. There are some places run ... .Southern California Off the Beaten Path, 7th (Off the Beaten Path Series) by: Kathy Strong July 01, 2007 I just got this book this afternoon and have basically just skimmed through it to see what was said about my area and some areas I've visited. I was disappointed that there were no photos of any of the places mentioned, just a couple sketches here and there. I was expecting some little known places to be mentioned, but for the most part, I've either already heard of all of them (in my area) or been there! Most of the places mentioned are readily found on the various websites for each city, so an internet search would have given me the same results. I was kind of hoping to have a guide informing me of quirky places to visit as I was travelling, with photos of the neat places I could visit along the way.
