Lorenzo Da Ponte was a courageous, adventurous and passionate man--
and a brilliant poet and librettist. Reading about his life and travels,
his trials and failures, is exciting and inspiring!
This is one of the most riveting biographies I have read.
I recommend it highly to anyone---even if you are not an opera lover.
This is the story of a man who had to reinvent himself again and again.
A man who took risks, which sometimes brought him acclaim and money,
and sometimes left him having to start again. He never gave up.
Beautifully written, and so evocative, it is as if you are there for it all. Enjoy this book!

Farfetched, but lots of fun to read. Very imaginative and I, for one, would be happy if it were true that poor Kit was not murdered, but lived on to create.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the politics and personalities of the time, especially my favorite villain, Sir Robert Cecil.

Having just returned from a visit to the Netherlands, we found this family guide to Amsterdam to be very useful when planning fun days for all of us. The book is organized by area of the city and includes museums, tourist sites, historical places and restaurants. Site information includes contacts, transportation, hours etc. Colorful maps are included, as well as fun facts that make the place more interesting for kids, and sites geared toward varied interests made this a very helpful guide for our family.
