. Vienna Prague Budapest, 2nd (Country & Regional Guides - Cadogan)
by: Mary-Ann Gallagher, Matthew Gardner, Sadakat Kadri
June 01, 2007
Maps are an important part of any guidebook, and the maps in this book are lacking. They do not include hotel locations on city maps nor Metro/bus stops. They have no key and are in a pink/white ink (like Rough Guide), making them difficult to read. In addition, it includes no information for budget travelers; no hostel information nor cheap eats (this book lists anything less than 25 Euros as a "Cheap Eat"). In addition, it does not include a list of bulleted "Must Sees;" it prefers to list sights by location, not importance. As a result, smaller, regional museums take precedence over more important sights, which may be listed in a different neighborhood. In addition, it does not list entrance fees to musuems, it simply says "Admission Charged." ... Read More:

. The Trial: A History, from Socrates to O. J. Simpson
by: Sadakat Kadri
August 30, 2005
How did the jury trial system get started?
Surprisingly as a trial attorney, even I didn't know the answer until reading this book. And it turns out the answer starts in ancient Babylon, detours to Mt. Sinai, stops briefly at ancient Athens, has a sojourn in the Roman Empire before finally wending its way through Christendom, the Roman Catholic Church and then ultimately to British common law.
In other words we have managed to inherit our legal traditions concerning the treatment of criminal defendants the same way that we've inherited our other traditions...through the accidents and mis steps of history itself.
And it also turns out that Sadikat Kadri, BOTH London barrister AND member of the New York state ... Read More:

. Prague, 2nd (City Guides - Cadogan)
by: Sadakat Kadri
October 01, 2005
I also spent just 6 days visiting the city. I bought this guide after I arrived in Prague and it remains as one of my most cherished books. Incredibly witty, humorous, well-informed and useful. And so dead-on, it sometimes felt as if I was being teased (i.e. Mr Kadri describes a certain club as prone to "shoulder-brushing encounters"; I get there with my friends, go up to the bar to order and... someone's brushing his arm against mine! Seemed like a joke). Also, it made the most out of Prague's odd history and legends. It's too bad it hasn't been updated, but even if you travel now to Prague, I'd still recommend it for the descriptions. You can get up-to-date phone numbers in other guides, but what Mr Kadri offers I've never seen. Read More:

. Prague, Budapest (Cadogan Guides)
by: Sadakat Kadri
January 01, 2001
Looks like this book is out of print and no longer being updated with new editions, which is a shame. I picked up a 2001 copy of this guide at a used bookstore before heading to Europe in 2005 and found it to be a good suppliment to my other guidebooks. The format is not always user-friendly which is why I suggest it as a suppliment, but it included a lot of hidden gems that I wouldn't have had the pleasure of visiting had I not found them in this book. (Examples: a hole-in-the-wall antique and junk shop in Prague, full of handmade trinkets, signs from pubs, communist propoganda pins, old records and original artwork; and the Sir Lancelot restaraunt in Budapest- dinner is served in an elaborately decorated medieval-style meal hall complete with a dinner performance ...
