I bought this book for my daughter. She is in Peru, and brought the book with her to use as a guide for everything. I read it first, and it was a great book, it tells you just about everything you need to know, and bring when you travel to Peru. I highly recommend this book,it is one of the best books on Peru!

Really great book, the only problem, the pictures are all in black & white, its an overview of the Californian State, but if you want a more detailed focus on each city you may need additional guides.

Lonely Planet's new series of Encounter guides allow the read to "discover twice the city in half the time." I've always celebrated Lonely Planet guides for their compact size and sturdy construction, and the Encounter guides are even smaller, with glossy and thin (but durable) pages. The information is focused and direct. Currency, tipping, and basic services are listed on the inside cover and in a closing chapter, instead of at the front of the book. The guide gets rights down to business in the opening pages with outlines of top agendas in Vegas--cruising the Strip, buffet dining, getting married, gambling, visiting vintage Vegas or cheap Vegas (which is getting harder these days), and so forth. .Lonely Planet Hiking in Hawaii

I found this book quite useful while hiking on the big island, where I did the majority of the recommended hikes (excluding the Mauna Kea, admittedly). I used it in the planning phase and, in conjunction with a topographic map, during the hikes. The descriptions of the hikes are accurate both in terms of the path to take, the scenery, plant and animal life to expect as well as in regard to the time the hikes will take. The warnings it contains, especially regarding the need to carry enough water are to be taken seriously! As a fit but not expert hiker, I ended up finishing the hikes in about the lower estimated duration given by lonely planet.

I found this book quite useful while hiking on the big island, where I did the majority of the recommended hikes (excluding the Mauna Kea, admittedly). I used it in the planning phase and, in conjunction with a topographic map, during the hikes. The descriptions of the hikes are accurate both in terms of the path to take, the scenery, plant and animal life to expect as well as in regard to the time the hikes will take. The warnings it contains, especially regarding the need to carry enough water are to be taken seriously! .Lonely Planet Austin, San Antonio & the Hill Country

After seeing the one-star review after my purchase, I was afraid I'd made a mistake, for I bought the book as a gift for someone and several weeks later another for myself out of curiosity. But I disagree having received my copy. I grew up in San Antonio and studied at UT-Austin. So, I'm acquainted with both towns as well as the Hill Country. Although I've yet to delve into it, the author seems to have done her homework and knows the ins and outs, the places to go, the eateries and so on. I would recommend this.
