I was first inteding to purchase Lonely Planet on Japan (as on several previous trips). Then I borrowed the previous edition of Rough Guides from a friend. I instantly realized that Rough Guides is far more superior than Lonely Planet. The best thing about it is the introduction of the whole country with 32 must-see places. Each section also has a highlights page with some 8 must-see spots in the particular region. This makes the planning of the trip very easy. Moreover, the information provided in the Rough Guides is much more detailed than in LP. I will definitely choose RG for my next trips.

His subsequent books have been more focused, and the Energy Healing Experiments looks at the research and evidence validating the power of consciousness and intention to guide healing energies. This book provides solid evidence and explores important questions raised by both believers and skeptics. I agree with one other reviewer here who said "horrible cover but great book"...the cover and the title of the book are way over the top. I half expected the book to start with chapters of little green men who caused the extinction of mammoths. Despite the goofy title and cover, this is an easy to read, easy to follow theory of what caused the great extinctions of 13,000 years ago in North America, killing off the mammoths, mastodons and evidently much of the human population (clovis culture) along about that time. Firestone's theory of the comet hitting an area near Lake Michigan, which was covered in ice two miles thick at the time, takes a little getting used to, and opening the mind a bit to grasp the entire theory. This is a very good book to read on a dark stormy night, all kidding aside though I did enjoy it, and found that some of the classics like Poe translate well over to graphic novel format, which was unexpected. It is like finding a treasure after high school forced reading of books that you could not associate with.

Overall five stars, enjoyed it a lot, worth picking up and reading.

This textbook is used as the main text for one of my graduate courses. It is a well written book and contains a plethora of information. The problem is that I find myself constantly re-reading sections and walking through examples to thoroughly understand them. Nothing seems to click the first time I read through the information (or sometimes even second, third, etc.).

This is my first time taking any coursework in the bioinformatics field so perhaps it is simply because this material is new to me, but I found this book fairly difficult to read. I had to supplement it with other books, wikipedia entries, etc. to be able to understand many of the terms (which this book fails to define).
