. Pearson's Thoracic and Esophageal Surgery: Expert Consult: Online and Print, 2-Volume Set (Expert Consult Online + Print)
by: G. Alexander Patterson, F. Griffith Pearson, Joel D. Cooper, Jean Deslauriers, Thomas W. Rice, James D. Luketich, Antoon E. M. R. Lerut
April 15, 2008
What can you expect from a book that can't even get the cover photo right? The photo is of a region called the Coyote Buttes along the Arizona-Utah border!! I thumbed through it just out of curiousity upon seeing the glaring mistake, but it didn't look as good as the travel material I already had with me, so I didn't buy it.

. Insiders' Guide to South Dakota's Black Hills & Badlands, 3rd (Insiders' Guide Series)
by: Thomas D. Griffith, Dustin D. Floyd, Bert Gildart, Jane Gildart
October 01, 2004
Yes, there are some historical and geographical inaccuracies in this book, however as a trip guide it is comprehensive and quite helpful. I recently returned from a 6 day trip through the Black Hills, Badlands and Wyoming. The maps were helpful. The restaurant suggestions were excellent. I took several of the Day Trips recommended outside of the area and enjoyed all of them. If you have time check out Spearfish Canyon, Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, Canyon Lake, and Chapel in the Hills. These were true highlights. I carried this book with me every day of my trip and frequently referred to it.

. Alcohol Policy and the Public Good
by: Griffith Edwards, Peter Anderson, Thomas F. Babor, Sally Casswell, Roberta Ferrence, Norman Giesbrecht, Christine Godfrey, Harold D. Holder, Paul H. M. M. Lemmens
January 26, 1995
Back when this book came out I was requested to write a review of it for Addiction Biology. I wrote the review, but the editor refused to print it, and wouldn't explain why not. Here's the suppressed review: "A 400 word review is too short to do justice to such a complex and interesting work, but dozens of pages of comment have already been published in `Addiction'. This short review takes a rather more critical look at a few chapters, but is in no sense an attempt to `rubbish' the work or its authors. The main aim of the book, to synthesise research on policy in the field of alcohol and public health, is eminently desirable, and the conclusion that policy should aim as far as possible to control alcohol problems is impossible ... . Lucky Strike
by: Nyla Griffith
March 15, 2007
I'm really not one for Westerns. Or mysteries. Or Western mysteries. I usually stick to histories, biographies, the classics and, every now and then, science fiction and fantasy. But as one who's lived in and continues to work in Deadwood, South Dakota, where Lucky Strike is set, the novel was something of a mandatory read.
And it was worth it.
As a history buff, Lucky Strike appealed to me for its well-researched, nuanced detail. The book is set in both 1870s and modern Deadwood, and Griffith has captured - for me, anyway - the sense of both, largely through detail. Anyone with even a passing interest in the history of Deadwood, the Black Hills and Dakota Territory should find the setting pretty fascinating. As a nominal Deadwood ... Read More:
