Finally a brand spanking new update to this excellent guide. The last edition was October 2004.

I have been to Romania 10 times and I still am discovering new places in this fascinating country.

Very portable and going into 2008 very accurate, considering Dresden is in considerable flux from extensive rebuilding, with varying availabilities of their collections and exhibits. The nearby attractions of Meissen and Moritzburg are presented very well too. The author's greatest strengths are his thoroughness in necessary information and his eye for architecture; his weakest is his lack of interest in shopping (except for books and music).

Romania is so rapidly becoming a hip tourist destination that any guide over two years old is sure to be out of date. This guide is no exception. Use it for a crash course in Romania history, culture and geography, but plan to rely on more local sources for the best places to sleep and eat.

This book irritates the hell out of Romanians because it states some painful truths. First, Romania is a poor country. It's a place where "the dollar goes a long way," to quote the overused phrase. And while it's becoming less poor, Romania still lags behind other former Warsaw Pact countries in developing a healthy economy. Don't expect modern conveniences and a cheery service ethic... yet.

.Georgia, 3rd: The Bradt Travel Guide

Like all the Brandt guides I've used, this one provides a wealth of background and planning information for a country with few other comprehensive resources for travelers. Tim Burford writes with clarity and color, making the text a pleasure to read. While no guide can capture every point of interest for every traveler, the Brandt guides always help me find the path to discovering my special places and moments, and the guide to Georgia is no exception.

As with any guide, travelers need to remember that conditions can alter radically in developing countries between the time information for the guide is collected and the time of one's visit.

I got this info from Bradt-travelguides website: typical of the entire line, it's 688 pages · 8 colour photos · 79 maps.
So be aware that this is no "Insight" guide, with plenty of photos to help you decide what to see.
I wish AMAZON would include info like this on all travel books. Require the publisher to provide an outline of book.

.Backpacking in Mexico

I think this book tries to be too many things. It aims at giving backpackers all they need. All they need won't fit into 240 or so pages. Most of it covers the same ground as do other, better, guidebooks: bus connections, hotels, restaurants, background and history, sightseeing descriptions, etc. Also, note that the book was printed in 1997 so the details are hopelessly outdated anyway.

Where it's different from the usual guidebooks (Lonely Planet, Moon, etc.) is in giving some information on hikes. Unfortunately, narrative directions like these are notoriously hard to follow. Trail maps are too much to hope for, but GPS coordinates would be a huge help, as another reviewer has already noted. In any case, there aren't enough trails included ... Read More:

This is the most detailed travel guide I've found so far on Georgia and for that I am eternally grateful. However, I only give it four stars because some of its directions are inaccurate (in one case, a road was washed out and impassable without a 4WD, though that may have occured post-publication). Double check with maps and the locals before attempting any serious cross-country journeys.
