God bless you all for whom this book helped but it just didn't do the trick for us. I must admit that there is some great general advice in there but when I got this book I was desperate and needed help immediately, not a month to 3 months down the road. Ms. Pantley's advice is definitely gentle but very, very time consuming. She even says that it may take 30-120 days to work. Well, how much of that is the techniques or is the child just more developmentally ready to sleep better? If you have lots of time and are not at the end of your rope then give this a try but if you are desperate like I was then I don't think you should waste your time with this.

As a first-time mother, I wanted to do everything in my power to ensure that my (now almost 7-month old) son felt loved, safe and secure. We still co-sleep, I breastfeed on demand, and, at the urging of Dr. Sears and Martha Sears, I initially wore him in a sling as much as possible, which was basically all day. I don't think Dr. Sears realizes how thinly some eager new moms are willing to spread themselves in order to "do what is best for the baby". After about a month of this, I was ready to pass out. This book is wonderful, I started out with the Baby Book by Dr. Sears and it is known as the "Baby Bible" in our house, anything we had a question about we could find the answer in that book, it's a must have for any first time mom! The discipline book has not let me down. I was struggling with how to handle some situations when my daughter transitioned into toddler hood and this book has taught me that one type of discipline will not work in every situation and how to communicate with my daughter. It has made our relationship stronger and her transition less stressful now that I understand how to teach her what to do and what not to do. This book helped me both enjoy and understand my pregnancy. Each time I hit the first day of each month of my pregnancy, I would sit down and read that month's chapter. There were times when I felt like I was reading an auto-biography! The authors really understand what pregnant mothers are going through. It gave me peace of mind about what was happening. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Informative, entertaining, honest without being scary. Perhaps the best thing of all was that it lead me to buy The Baby Book, which turned out to be the greatest resource once my baby was born.

I read several books throughout my first pregnancy, and found this one to be the most informative. There is a chapter on relaxation during the labor process (how to focus on keeping your muscles relaxed during contractions so your uterus doesn't have to fight against them) that I found to be VERY helpful. A very educational book that I highly recommend.

This book is wonderful. I have started recommending it to all of my friends. If you can read only one book on parenting, this is the one to read! When you read it you will learn about different parenting styles, their effectiveness or lack there of and a new way to create a happy loving and peaceful family life where you can get your children to cooperate and act as they should.

I am the mother of a 3 and 7 year old. My kids go to bed easily and on time, are polite and well behaved when outside of the house, but at home is another story. There really is so much joy and pride for giving your baby the best only you can give him/her.
