If you do legal work at home, this dictionary is essential to have there. As a law student, I have unlimited access to the Westlaw version of Black's, but there are a great deal of missing entries in that format. I have literally never tried to look up a word in the hardbound version without finding it--not so with the online or pocket versions. It is also an excellent citation source for basic legal facts, something you can't do with the internet version because of the lack of page numbers. Perhaps a little expensive for a student, but this sturdy, long-lasting volume will pay for itself by saving you time.

Blacks is the best on the market in terms of law dictionaries. However, the downside is you need an internet connection for it and that is not always the most convenient for those with limited internet access. So much nicer when you can just save things to your computer if you choose.

The book looks helpful at first glance but we'll see what happens when the semester gets rolling and it matters. I usually find that buying these books is an inevitable trap I fall into with disappointing results. But, in all fairness I haven't given this book much of a shot yet. Amazon is excellent - obviously.

Barron's "Dictionary of Legal Terms" is a solid text. When I asked a law friend of mine which law dictionary I should purchase he told me that "Black's" was the best law dictionary out there. However, it is rather expensive at eighty or so dollars. Even the pocket version of the text is at least twenty dollars. So I sprang for this law dictionary at about eight dollars.

I was quite impressed and quite educated by the Barron's work. It was informative and complete, yet simple enough for a non-law student to understand. At my local bookstore I compared the Barron's dictionary with some others and found this one more to my liking because it provides examples for certain definitions; something the other texts did not.

Brian Garner is the man. He had me hooked from Legal Writing in Plain English. Modern legal Usage gives the modern legal writer confidence to dispense with legalese and write with precision. I will use this book as a reference throughout my career.

I just got my Black's law dictionary digital edition and it installed perfectly in Word 2007. I've been playing with it for an hour. The spell check feature and auto correct as you type works the same as with any other word in Word. There is a little Black's dictionary toolbar that is under the "add in's" tab on the Ribbon. I also installed Black's in Internet Explorer 7 and that works great too. For all the other reviewers who complained that Black's law dictionary digital didn't work with Word 2007; it does now! Just be sure to buy the version that was published in August of 2008 and you are set!

Although it is cheap, there's not very much in it. I was disappointed not to find any of the terms I needed reading cases for my first week of class. Spend the money and buy the regular 8th edition.

There is not much that can be said for dictionaries except how much they help you. Whether you are a lawyer or layman, this is a valuable reference to those confusing legal terms you may periodical see on contracts, in the news, on warranties and other places.

Black has been around for a long time and is the most concise of all the dictionaries I have seen. Pick it up and you wont regret it.
