Mardy Grothe's new book, I Never Metaphor I Didn't Like, is a first class meal in the back row of the plane. It's a waterfall after three weeks in the Sahara. It's a brand new Beatles album at an estate sale. It's....it's....you see why I like this book? I need help with my metaphors!

Seriously, this book is a gem. The historical and literary references make it more than a book of great quotes. It's fascinating reading and a terrific tool for would-be writers. Pick it up and start reading anywhere. It's harder to let go of than a hot date at the prom.

I loved David Crystal's book Fight for English, so I picked this one up too - even though it's a very different topic. That said, this is a fascinating collection. And the book itself is beautiful, a classic to be turned to again and again.

The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain is fun to read and see what a master has had to quip about many daily things. It is always fun to see what Twain has to say. Dover makes very afforadble little books so we all can read the classics for less.

As a US History teacher, this small and inexpensive book brings personality and life to one of our most beloved Presidents. An excellent value and one that is more likely to be read and enjoyed than larger, more in depth works. Middle School kids get a kick out of the quotes.

As a middle- of-the-road American, I'm always curious to find out what the partisan extremes are thinking; therefore I gave this a try.
I've read and listened to Coulter in various contexts, so this review speaks for her other publications as well.
Ann Coulter is everything that's wrong with Generation X(of which I'm also a memeber) in its most concentrated form; cold, hard, cynical, "it's all about ME", unsympathetic, self absorbed, grab and get ahead and God help who gets in my way, all taken to its insane extreme, as it were.
After reading this you will know what she's against, ad nauseum. What the moderate, middle-of-the-road reader may well wonder is what she's FOR.

I've used a hard-copy of Bartlett's Familiar Quotations for years as a reference. I was disappointed that this current edition for the Kindle does not have all the content of the book.

Abraham Lincoln, for example, is missing. Sir Winston Spencer Churchill... missing. Grover Cleveland, Christopher Columbus, Confucius; all missing. I would be a much happier Customer if this were a full-reference version.

"The Tao of Warren Buffett" is a collection of aphorisms that are useful for investors. These include:

1)You can't make a good deal with a bad person.

2)The great personal fortunes in this country weren't built on a portfolio of 50 companies - they were built by someone who identified one wonderful business. I can't be involved in 50-75 things - that's a Noah's ark way of investing. None of the balls get the attention they need and you end up dropping them all.

Some books are just fun. You pick them up knowing it will put a smile on your face and you leave it down with that smile on your face.
Oxymoronica (Is this a moronic title?) is one of those books.

It is difficult to write a lengthy review about this book because it would basically entail repeating many of the wonderful quotes which the author has sourced (and he does source and credit them very well.)

The oxymorons range through humor, the human condition, politics, advice and other concepts. I would encourage you to ignore the oxymoronic advice of George Bernard Shaw quoted in this book - "Never take anybody's advice," and read this book.

It is a genuine little gem
