We all respect scientists--even budding science students--for their commitment to accuracy and objectivity. Sometimes our strengths are also our weaknesses. I'm a very difficult person to buy presents for, and normally end up with things I don't really want. I was given this book and have really enjoyed reading it and the projects in it.

There's enough here to keep me entertained for many weekends, and I highly recommend it as a present for others!

This is great if you just want a general view of UBC and IBC codes.
But, it constantly refers to the IBC for the specifics.
But overall, is a Building Codes for Dummies!!!

This is one dads and boys will get a kick out of together. The text is easy and enjoyable (even for mom) to read. Whether you are using it for science or history (making sort-of replicas or understanding the technology of certain periods) or for your budding engineer, you will find this a great place to start.

If you are an advanced ballistician (or whatever you call yourselves), check this out at the library first - it really is a beginner's book. Also, redstoneprojects.com has a nice selection of working replica and/or tabletop model catapults from different historical eras if you're more interested in authenticity.

I found the material to be very interesting and would have rate the book four stars; except that in reading the book the material is a bit too choppy to follow, chapters don't link together too well. Outside of that very interesting book.

This book is an amazing value. I would pay 50 bucks for this book. Much of the book is full of very useful information about lab equipment and the chemicals you will need--where to find the chemicals, and the specific safety risks of each chemical. The experiments are simply in design, but lengthy enough to be significant learning experiences. Data tables and questions about the lab are included. I'm sure this will turn out to be a very valuable resource for my teaching of secondary science.
