What a pack of lies this book is. I am proud to say that I have a mostly recovered autistic son about to loose his diagnosis thanks to the Defeat Autism Now! doctors that this doctor is slandering. Look at Offits professional history and his conflict of interests and it is not hard to see why he came up with this book. What else are you gonna do when you are as responsible as he and his industry are for the autism epidemic. Don't waste your money on this poor excuse for a book. Research for yourself the whole autism story. If you want to know about autism ask a parent of a child with autism, not a vaccine patent holder and pusher. The book provides a common sense approach to instilling behaviors which promote positive outcomes in healthcare. As you read through each chapter the author builds the on the content provided from the previous chapter. It certainly demonstrates how you can be instrumental in having a "domino effect" just by being consistent and positive in relationships.

My family and I are missionaries living in E. Africa. I am a registered nurse in the U.S. so I do have medical training, yet here in Africa I have turned to (the older version of this book) many times. I have turned to this book for ringworms, scabies, malaria, medication, birth control options, infant malnutrition, etc. A lot of teaching to the local people, and plan to do much more. This book is easy to read, and a great reference. I did not give it a 5 start b/c for some reason (the older version of this book)not sure about the latest one, but it uses the word shi* for the word stools, or poop. And I can see how someone who does not have medical training could try some of the procedures in the book (ex. circumcision) and end up doing more harm ... Read More:

First, I'll say that I'm an atheist, and the author's religious beliefs, or her expression of them, do not bother me. This is America and we are all entitled to express what we believe, and we all know we're not under obligation to agree with each other. So to those so offended by what she references(God Breezes, etc.), I don't really get it.

Second, I am a single woman with no children who works full-time and lives at home with my mother. I do virtually all of the cooking and cleaning, and have since I was 12 or 13. Far from being a disorganized clutterbug, I know how to clean a house very nicely, I am an expert at laundry, I never have trouble throwing anything out and I'm a great cook. The evolution of American medicine is a fascinating story and it is told very well. The analysis is excellent and this really provides a great perspective about how the US got to the corporate system we are now on. I wish there would be an update that would take us from 1980-2000. The debate over how socialized medicine did not take root is very interesting and well done in the book. If you are getting started or an expert this book has something for everyone. Highly recommend for those who are trying to understand how doctors and hospitals developed in America.

First time ever to see a psychologist. She recommended this book. IT IS a TREASURE!! Some of the exercises are hard to do, but they sure open "doors" I didn't know I HAD!! A collector collects thing of VALUE; an accumulator saves EVERYTHING--Just In Case!!
