I read all the reviews. Figured small print was okay to deal with. Not so. Not only is it charts and graphs in the whole book, it is miniscule print. It's not a couple charts here and there, it is the WHOLE book, kind of like when you see fine print at the bottom of a contract. Information itself is good after the 20mins it takes to find it. Using it was so tedious it would stress me out trying to look stuff up. Waste of money, invest the cash in a better book.

I really enjoyed this book. It is interactive (fill in the blank with the answers right in the margins). There's lots of repetition so you get the concepts quickly and review them frequently. I loved this book and will keep it for my whole career because of its superb explanations and review purposes!

This is an exceptional book. The level of coverage on any given topic is often 'the final authority' when other books don't have the answers.

I have a considerably older version of this book circa 1978 or so and decided to update my resources for a recertification exam. While this served as an excellent reference, I did find the information cumbersome to find, with the extensive index often directing me to a single instance of the item I was searching for as part of the label of a photograph (with no particularly useful information in the photograph), for instance, sometimes requiring me to look up 10 different points and reference the pdfs on the DVD to find an answer. I thought Atul Gawande's last book, Complications, was one of the best books written on the medical profession in a long while. In it, Gawande showed a deep respect and sympathy for patients while trying to be clear about what would help the medical establishment do a better job from a doctor's point of view. In this book, he covers some of the same ground but, as his title implies, here he is focused specifically on what it takes to do things better as a doctor. The chapters here are grouped under three big heading which Gawande feels are the categories of improvement: diligence, doing right, and ingenuity. Within that, he tells some fascinating stories.

This book arrived, as promised, full of information that I had not read in other books covering thyroid disease. I have not finished it in it's entirety, however it is safe to say that I would highly recommend it to others suffering from this ailment. The subject is covered extremely well, from various perspectives, and leaves the thyroid patient feeling more in control of the disease, from having such a great heads up from many sources.

This is a great study guide for the American Board of Medical Genetics exam. It covers cytogenetics and molecular genetics in depth, and also discusses other important concepts such as Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium, Population Genetics, Genomics, and single gene and complex inheritance.
I have not used the on-line access feature yet, but I have noticed a lot of improvements from the previous printed edition, including reorganized chapters, new/updated end-of-chapter questions, new statistics based on a more updated human gene count/information, and new sections on array comparative genomic hybridization. I read this book in two days. The first few chapters keep you reading with mixed fascination and terror as you try to picture a human being melting from the inside out. Great writing. The book slows in the last half and gets a little more technical, but non-fiction does that because all life is not lived like a novel. I think the author does his best to satisfy (not offend) animal rights people. Overall, the book is an intense look at some scary life forms that will sure keep me from poking around in strange caves.

a nice complete review book with no mistakes, professionally and friendly written i find it more than helpful for my prep for step 2 ck , with a bonus of the online subscription that comes with the book
cons: the hematology and renal chapters need to be more inclusive, yet its a review and not a textbook, overall 5 stars
