Well I will concede that this staple of civil procedure classes in law school is a good read, but let's do the math. When you see what Stern's firm took and you see what the victims got, we know that the law firms were the winner's here and the people who lost their lives and homes with all their possessions did not fair very well at all. For that reason, it's probably a good introduction to class action litigation.

Victor Matthews is a great scholar who takes the Bible very seriously. What you will find in this book is all the stories of the OT compared to similar stories from pagan mythology. Most books like this just paraphrase these myths or compare them on T-charts to Bible stories with the intention of showing similarities or differences. In this book, you get to read the myths for yourself and make up your own mind about the significance of the parallels. This is a well written, compelling account of the ugliness of fundamentalist Islamic mob justice in Khomeini-era Iran. With no way of verifying its complete veracity - e.g., the author writes about Soraya's thoughts from her pit of impending slaughter - there is nothing in this book that conflicts with Islam's teachings through its Koran, Hadiths, and most importantly, the Sunnah of Mohammad. I'm pretty well numbed to the horror stories coming out of Islam, because of the conditioning of reading al kortoby, al tobary, ibn katheer, Jalalayn, and Ibn Abass (all available online), but this book still ripped at my heart with the mystery and tragedy of it all.

Easy to understand but impressive in its control and use of detailed information. The facts here are monstrously complex, but Crook is equally masterful at narrative and analysis. The emphasis is on civil rather than criminal law.
