.Living Dead in Dallas (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 2) City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: Charlaine Harris March 26, 2002 this was just plain awful. I picked up the book after watching a couple of episodes of True Blood. This is one of the rare cases where the show is better than the book. The book has no plot, no character development, no allure. The only thing the book has to offer was sex. In fact, I felt as if she was shoving it down our throats. .Club Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 3) City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: Charlaine Harris April 29, 2003 So first off the only reason I'm even wasting my time with these books is because I am totally hooked on the HBO series and I don't want to wait years to find out what happens (even though the show is really nothing like the books)...SPOILER ALERT!!! The smartest thing Sookie has done thus far is when she "rescinded" (took back) the invitation into her house from Bill and Eric, which by the way I have never read a vampire book where that is even possible. .Dead to the World (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 4) City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: Charlaine Harris May 03, 2005 As I have said in my last three reviews on the previous books the only reason I putting myself through the time consuming cloud of these novels is because I love the show on HBO and don't want to wait years to find out what happens (even though the show seems like a different story at times). I was surprised though that this book was actually better then the first three. The story wasn't as choppy and Sookie seems to be acting her age and not like a baby. I am also surprised at how much I like Eric. The producers of the "True Blood" series didn't in my opinion choose the right man for the role. .Dead as a Doornail (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 5) City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: Charlaine Harris April 25, 2006 I am surprised that this series just gets better and better as you read it. This book makes a shift to focus more on werewolfes and shapeshifters and of course, most of them accept her. We also see a little more from the fairies. The book picks up on the storyline that was laid in book 4. Eric has his memory back, but doesn't remember. Jason has been bitten by a werepanther and is waiting for the first full moon. Someone is trying to kill werewolfs and shifters, the search for Debbie Pelt continues and there are attempts made on Sookie's life. While I would have liked to have seen more with the vampires in this book, we got to see enough of them and the storyline with Eric and Sookie is further developed. (love that) ... .The Host: A Novel City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: Stephenie Meyer May 06, 2008 I love the twilight series, I could read them over and over again (which I have), they just completely suck me in, which is why I was so disappointed with this book. It was torture reading this book, I didn't get into it until the last 100-150 pages, maybe it just finally wore me down. I kept reading it thinking it had to get better and then I kept reading only because I paid money for it. How can an author be so amazing with one series and then crash and burn with another its almost like another person wrote it. I would not recommend this book to anyone. .Definitely Dead (Southern Vampire Mysteries, Book 6) City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: Charlaine Harris March 27, 2007 I was a little disappointed in this installment of the Southern Vampire series. I didn't seem to have the flair that the others did. Lots of vampire politics in this book, which is very intersting, but not as many intesting plot twists as in the previous books. Also, I really missed Bill and Eric. They really took a back seat in this one and I found I missed them. There is some drama in this story. A twist on Bill, and also we find out more on Sookie's background. I still liked the story, but I don't see myself reading this one multiple times like I have the others in this series. I had decided to buy the first book after watching the series, True Blood, on HBO which is based on the book. I was hopeful that the book would be well-written and I was rewarded. I couldn't put it down, and finished it the day after I received it (standard shipping and it was at my door in 2 days, nice work Amazon!). I've since ordered books 2 and 3 in the series. The writing is solid, and the story is told from Sookie's point of view. Vampires have "come out" to the world after a synthetic blood was created for them in place of human blood. .The Black Dagger Brotherhood: An Insider's Guide City Travel Guides > Books > Vampires by: J.R. Ward October 07, 2008 OK, so I realize it's Fiction but I wish she would have gone in a different direction in her interview with Vishous. There has always seemed to be some kind of 'rift' between the two of them and I feel like she took the easy route in keeping that information very vague. Other than that the book is a lot of fun. J.R. is brilliant in her ability to bring to life these characters. There's a workaholic girl (a lawyer this time) and the obligatory vampire who's too bored with life so he hunts other vampires who don't follow the rules like he and his respectable vampire friends do. The two meet by entirely too contrived coincidence and she's his lifemate, (because, well, she's gotta be, right?) but looks like Olive Oil and he was hoping for Jessica Rabitt (Jessica Rabitt???!!!). Just to give them something to do, the workaholic's boss' goddaughter goes missing and the vamp and Olive Oil have to sit around in a cabin so they can periodically call the local crotchety sheriff to prod him to investigate a little more than he's willing to do.
