After searching the web endlessly for any help with winger positioning, I went ahead and took the risk of buying this book. I was very suprised at how much I didn't know about the game I play. Even though this book is flooded with play after play, I gained a better understanding of all the drills I've had to run over a lifetime of practices. I recommend "reading" this book if you're someone who, like me, needs every line explained and detailed in order to understand why your coach keeps yelling at you when you thought you were executing the play correctly.

I played field hockey about 9 years ago and recently my arm has been slightly twisted to coach middle school hockey. I had forgotten all the basics of the game and this book is a quick to the point guide. I like the pictures it provides and the drills. My goalie coach who had never even seen a game before has been able to use the book and apply it to coaching my goalies. I definitly recommend this book whether you are a coach who is looking for a break down of skills or a player looking to improve your game.

For a Philly Hockey fan and fan of the overall game, Jonesy is an amazing read. Great stories with insight into the game that most of us never get to see. I laughed outloud more than a dozen times. I literally couldn't put it down. That is the best compliment you can give any book.

I ordered this book for a good general overview as my son has chosen to play hockey when no one else in our family has ever played before. I found it to be a great source of information for a beginner family. Highly recommend this book.

Not to harp on after what so many have already noted, but the plethora of basic errors is an unwelcome distraction. To compound the problem, many of the the errors are glaring, i.e. not really understanding the game-misconduct penalty, or when focusing on the NHL players who are Captain of their team, he admirably highlights Cam Neely, who never wore the "C" in Boston or Vancouver (note to author: Ray Bourque is not best pleased). Hiring a good researcher would have improved this book by 40%.

By missing so many of the basics of hockey itself, it is too much to expect that this book will be able to penetrate the complex idiosyncrasies that make up The Code. In this respect, the book doesn't fail, which is a shame because this might have been ... Read More:

At the time of this review, I am 31 years old and preparing for my first season of adult hockey. I had almost zero skating experience (aside from maybe three public skating sessions when I was 12 or so years old) when I decided I wanted to play hockey. Before I started taking skating seriously, I would just go out an mess around on the ice for a half hour at a time. All that did was breed bad habits and frustration. Then, I purchased this book: I can't stress to you just how much the descriptions in this book helped form good skating habits while avoiding/undoing the bad ones. Mr. Bernstein did an incredible job of not only showing the talent and skill that Mr. Brooks had building the 1980 Olympic team and taking them to victory but he also was able to show the real Herb Brooks. I say this for in the mid-80s I worked at a hardware store near where Herb lived and on many occasions he'd stop in and pick up supplies or get keys cut and every time he stopped in he'd always be open to chat or sign autographs for as many who would hold out a slip of paper and a pen. A few years after that I was leaving a video store and he asked me how I liked a car I had recently purchased.
