This book is great, but it is missing some key places to visit or see before you die. There are others places that do not validate why I should visit them. This book is a great guide, but do not use it as a "be all" bible type book.

This book has great info on planning trip to Vancouver and Whistler and now after reading about victoria, think I should add tht to the trip.

I have been collecting/using Rand McNally road atlases since the early '90s. They are consistently great atlases from year to year. Normally, I find the next year's atlas available in September, so I was very surprised to see the 2009 version available in May, 2008. When comparing the 2008 version to the 2009 version, it is clear that the 2009 version was released earlier than usual. There are very few updates that I noticed from one version to the next. Usually I can spot some updates from a mile away, so to speak. This time, I had to get both the 2008 and 2009 versions out and compare them side to side to notice any updates. Awesome book. If you are planning on an Alaskan Cruise or Cruise/Tour - this is the only book you need. I previously bought 3 other books on Alaska but when I started reading this one - the others didn't get picked back up. This books has everything you could ever need to plan and enjoy your Alaskan Cruise experience. This book realy should have 10 stars not 5!

Ondaatje seems to be trying too hard. The language is overly flowery and the plot is often lost beneath the mound of words. It does have a few good moments, some funny, some touching. But in general, I spent most of this book irritated by the grandois manner of the author, as if by writing in a vague and pretty-fied manner, his words will sound important and deep.
Maybe it's just me, but I find that vague does NOT equal meaningful.

My fiance and I are going to Nova Scotia on our honeymoon this summer. This guide was the best one I've found. We're also going to Prince Edward Island and this book covers all of the Atlantic provinces. It even has sample itineraries which have been helpful because we are creating a honeymoon registry. Great buy! I would also recommend requesting free information from the tourist office of NS, they send out an informative brochure/book.
