We were looking for a place to go on our honeymoon in the Caribbean, but could not decide on which island to choose. This guide provided a great table comparing all the islands based on hotels, restaurants, activities, etc. and then a detailed description of each island. Would definitely recomment as a great starting point in planning your Caribbean vacation.

If you expect a well-reasoned and persuasive essay, look elsewhere. At best, this is the mindless rantings of somebody who's been through a lot and really needs to vent. The only thing she was able to persuade me by the end of the book was that I was an evil person.
The book is divided into several chapters. The format is fairly simple: in every chapter, Jamaica Kincaid hates on a different group of people. In the first chapter, she rants about tourists. In the second chapter, she rants about British people. If she focused on one group of people, her argument might make sense, but when she focuses on them all it becomes clear that she just hates everybody. If you want a book by and about experts sailing the Caribbean this is not it.

This is the story about a hard working Toronto couple. His dream was taking time off to sail to and around the Caribbean. If she had a dream; long, scary sailing trips were not part of it. Still, shaking in her flip-flops, she helped him pursue this dream and did pretty darn well. They spent several years saving and preparing. Anne was the founder and editor of Cottage Life Magazine. I had used Lonely Planet on several trips where some of them were disappointing and not so much "guiding". Yet, this Cuba guide made our trip to visit the "real" Cuba our most memorable with sufficient information on each major and minor city.

From Havana to the far end of Baracoa, the guide has useful information on what to do and up to date info on traveling between cities

If any of the 8 cities i visited there was a major or minor event/attraction, Lonely planet had it listed and all you needed to do is choose what to go for.

A lot of detail, very friendly to read, and a nice/light take on history and politics of the Socialist nation

If you're like me, you had already decided you were going to Bermuda by the time you bought this book. That made the part of the book that described the hotels not worth much too us, since we had already booked our hotel. But I will tell you that the restaurant guide alone is worth the price of this book. It details a lot (not all) of the restaurants in Bermuda, gives you an idea of the pricing and the type of food. Food is very, very expensive in Bermuda and can significantly add to the price of your vacation. There are few to none all-inclusive resorts in Bermuda, so you are going to have to buy food. Fantastic collectionn of photos that take you to another place in another time. Beautifully sequenced and with great essays. I hope Mr. Fernandez has more books in him. Give this a sixth star. And a seventh.

Great book for traveling to the BVI - if you are sailing i would recommend a BVI sailing book instead!

In general this is a good book and it seems up to date. For Havana this book is better than the Lonely Planet and has better maps and more information about things and places to see. The downside is the size. For me the Lonely Planet book could have done the job alone and it was only half the size of the this one.
