The eyewitness guides are a pleasure to read .Many great pictures and plenty of detail but not as heavy as some guides .I am as pleased with this one as the others I already own .These guides are books you actually pick up and read again after you have completed your trip.

IF you come in the first time and you have only a few days in budapest this is a very good book to introduce the city .
the only remark that i have is about the font that it too small !!!

The problem with this map is that in trying to be so small it limits its usefulness. You can't track a whole trip on one page, or easily find a street by name. I should have learned my lesson about these Streetwise maps by now.

I love this book. It's small enough to just throw in your bag and go when you are exploring a new city. Since moving to Budapest, it has come in handy several times over - and the pronunciation is superb! It has every helpful phrase you need when traveling abroad!

I think this book could be used for travelers of any age - though the "romance" section may be limited to the younger population.

One thing I would like to see in future publications though is maybe a map of the city - or at least a map of the metro.

I would buy this book - and others from the series - without hesitation in the future. I am a huge fan of Lonely Planet products so having this book in my library is just the icing on the cake!

Unless you are going to Budapest on a long weekend, save your money and buy Lonely Planet Hungary instead. Almost all of the information is in there with additional information on nearby areas. The metro system is under going a massive renovation so check with a local TI instead of the books to find out what lines are running.

Maps are an important part of any guidebook, and the maps in this book are lacking. They do not include hotel locations on city maps nor Metro/bus stops. They have no key and are in a pink/white ink (like Rough Guide), making them difficult to read. In addition, it includes no information for budget travelers; no hostel information nor cheap eats (this book lists anything less than 25 Euros as a "Cheap Eat"). In addition, it does not include a list of bulleted "Must Sees;" it prefers to list sights by location, not importance. As a result, smaller, regional museums take precedence over more important sights, which may be listed in a different neighborhood. The Eyewitness Travel Guide is by far the easiest to use and best travel guides on the market. They bring to life the locations with bright pictures well labeled for ease of understanding.

This is the kind of book that gives LP the great reputation that it deserves. The guide was generally helpful for both Budapest and Eger, and we used it religiously for our one-week visit to the country.

However, it would have been useful to have translations of the phrase "Is service included in the bill" (I have also found many other LP guides also omit this useful phrase). We would have also appreciated a more in-depth historical background. The historical description between the 1960s-90s was a little light.

This is a far cry from LP's Romania book, which was decent at best.
